Harry Potter Prisoner of Azkaban...possible glich or defect

I was watching the latest Harry Potter film on my samsung dvd p-231 player and I noticed something. In Chapter 14 at about the 51:57 point in the film there is a green tinted flicker that lasts about a second or two. Is this a bad disc? or is it in the print and that is the way it is? or is it my player? any thoughts? What causes flickers like this?

Probably just the layer break on the DVD, and your player didn't handle it very well.

My brother has an old Samsung player and when he played Star Wars one of the tie fighters had a green box around it. I wonder if this is related?

Others have reported this as well. There is some speculation that this was intentionally added to detect bootleg disks.

I don't know about that, but the I think the number that appears in the lower left area of the screen (under the poster) at 17:37 was added to identify bootlegs:

Not related. Those greenish boxes were a result of the limited special effects technology they had back then. You even see them on the VHS copies. Why they didn't clean that up for the DVD release is anybody's guess.

There is an article about the Star Wars DVDs in the new Sound and Vision. To summarize: those who see the boxes around the TIE fighters in that scene have their brightness set too high. David Ranada can fill in the details and can explain how to correct it accurately.

People have also been reporting strange scan lines when the movie fades to black. I didn't see this until I turned my contrast and brightness up. Just like the Emperor's "slugs" and the boxes from Star Wars, I think these glitches only appear if your television isn't calibrated properly. As far as the glitch from the original post, I did not see it on my player.

I get this, but my tv is calibrated. But then again it is calibratet for pal so that might be the case there.

I noticed a breakdown and pixellation as Harry talks to Ron & Hermione after the snowball fight. Needless to say, I'm returning my disc for another copy.
