here's a movie question i've been wanting to ask for a long time

when I was a kid, there was this movie showing on TV. I don't remember anything about it, except this scene...

This old bearded prospector type sat down in the desert beside a fallen log. The sun is blazing into his eyes. He sees ants crawling on his hand, and then he eats them.

That's it. It's a loooong shot. But you never know.

I don't have an answer, but this sounds so much like a text adventure game to me. Your description is great.

> Look East
< You see nothing.
>Look West
< There is something in the distance.
> Stand up.
< Whoops. The giant wish-granting Trex spotted you and ate you.
> Look.
< You are dead. Sorry.

XYZZY
Poof!

Could the answer be The Naked Prey ?

Cornel Wilde is not a prospector but it does have a similar scene.

Sounds like a scene from the first or second Dark Tower book.
