"Real" Gilligan Island

Anybody interested in watching this new reality TV show by TBS? With the casting revelations, I will at least tune in to the first show.

"Rachel Hunter is still playing the Ginger role on the soon-to-premiere TBS series "The Real Gilligan's Island." But former "Baywatch" star Nicole Eggert is too.

There will also be two Gilligans, two Skippers, two Professors and on down the line, because apparently an island-based unscripted show can't go without more than one set of castaways. The doubling up on the players, who were cast based on how closely their own lives resemble those of the "Gilligan's Island" characters, is "the first of many twists," TBS promises.

The two sets of castaways will be divided into two teams, and they'll take part in challenges modeled on scenes from the 1960s sitcom. Each "character" will be competing against the same character on the other team to make it into the final group of seven -- one for each "Gilligan's Island" character.

TBS announced that Hunter, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model and the ex-Mrs. Rod Stewart, would be part of the show earlier this week. Eggert, whose TV and movie credits also include "Charles in Charge" and the 1992 Haim-Feldman vehicle "Blown Away," will be Hunter's Ginger counterpart.

They're not the only castaways with prior on-camera experience. Millionaire's wife Mindy Stearns, nee Burbano, is an entertainment reporter for KTLA-TV in Los Angeles and has had cameos in "The Princess Diaries" and "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star."

Also of note: Kate Koth, one of the "Mary Anns," is the daughter of "Survivor: Amazon" contestant Janet Koth. On the one hand, mother could pass her reality-show experience to daughter, which bodes well for Kate's chances. On the other, Janet Koth lasted only six days on "Survivor" before being voted out for allegedly smuggling a granola bar into camp.

"The Real Gilligan's Island" premieres Tuesday, Nov. 30 on TBS."

Since I'm not the only one in the This-is-gonna-suck-but-I-gotta-watch-it camp, I have to wonder if TV execs are doing this on purpose: "Let's make a show so bad that people will tune in because nobody can pass a train wreck without looking!"

You know, I thought they were just getting 7 people that kinda looked like the originals, but they actually went out and got people that actually come from the walks of life on the show.

Real professors, real movie stars, real skippers, real millionaires and their real wives.

That's an interesting concept. It's still probably going to suck, but it's probably gonna be better than I thought.

Thanks Buford.

I find it funny how TBS commercials for this show is trying to make the millionaire's wife as "evil" incarnate. We'll see about that.

Probably this show will end up being as bad as the Swan or Outback Jack.

Thankfully I won't be home so I won't be able to see it. It sounds retarded... and perfectly addictive for an addle-brained moron like me. Since I'm never home before 11 on Tuesdays I'm safe. Phew!

Fake edit: oh look. It's on again at 11:15. Bastards!

Weird scheduling for the show tonight.

Its airs on TBS for 2 hrs from 8:00 pm ET to 10:00 pm ET. (This re-airs from 11:15 am ET to 1:15 am ET.) Then airs on TNT for another 2 hrs from 10:00 pm ET to 12:00 mid ET. (According to the description from TVGuide.com, the episodes on TNT are new ones.)

I'll check it out...

LB...

It wasn't as bad as it seemed. There will only be about 7 major competitions to decide on the winning castaway makeup. Should be over in a couple of months.

Rachel Hunter v. Nicole Eggert. My vote Rachel. Much more voluptuous and more like Tina Louise.

Probably to maximize the audience. It's not a new idea. Fox used to show 24 on FX a few nights after the original broadcast.
