Tae Guk Gi - Best Version Available?
Okay, can anyone who has seen any of the current release please link me or point me in the direction of the cheapest, but best or longest version out there?
I prefer to order from yesasia or a company that ships from the US.
Thanks for your help!

Well I don't know about cheapest but I believe that the best edition to get is the Korean one. This is a 3 disc set but the film is split onto 2 discs. If that doesn't bother you, the packaging is also great and comes with a softcover picture book and some photograph cards.

The Japanese version I believe has the complete film on 1 disc (it's a 2 disc set) but it's the most expensive (as usual) and the packaging isn't as nice.

There is also an HK version but I can't vouch for it's quality. Like the Japanese version this is also a 2 disc set. It's the cheapest of the 3, but for 6-7 $ more I'd go for the Korean version.

As far as I know there's is only one cut of this film available and it's the 140 min. theatrical cut.

If cost is your chief concern, you might consider this one ($17.99):

I believe it is the same one (as far as disc content) as the last link provided by eXcentris, however you don't get the extra stuff like the calender, paper, and envelopes. Again I can't speak for the A/V quality but I believe (not verified though) that it does contain the whole film on 1 disc. I wouldn't put too much stock in the "Director's cut" listing; if I recall correctly the Korean set (first link posted by eXcentris) clocks in at around 148 minutes (the movie is split over 2 discs and the break comes at a less than ideal - though not terrible - point in the film). The extra minute or so for the HK version could just be for company logos, etc. (maybe there is a minute of extra footage but I doubt it). I don't know whether or not the extras are subbed on the HK or Korean releases.

Actually, the Korean dvd release has the movie split over 2 discs. The 99 minute runtime you mention is for disc 1, disc 2 runs another 47-48 minutes. I'm not 100% certain but the longer minute or two on the HK disc could be just stuff like company logos or stuff like that - maybe not really a Director's cut (even if it is a Director's cut, another 1-2 minutes over this long a movie is likely to be less than significant). From the specs it does however seem that the HK release does contain the whole movie on 1 disc instead of spread over 2. Hope this helps.

R1 edition now listed on Sony Home Video website:
http://www.sonypictures.com/homevideo/upcoming.html
Look under Feb. 15.
For all you Netflix people, they have Tae Guk Gi ready to put in your queue, but don't list the release date yet.
Note that Sony will also offer a two-pack of Tae Guk Gi and Shiri.
