Anyone see one of the VH1 concerts with prince a while back when his "musicology" thiing was going on. At one point he was alone with his guitar playing and he sang a song, I think it was called "the sweetest thing". i had never heard it from prince before but apparently, judging by the crowd (ladies) singing along on the show, i am alone in that. anyway anyone know for sure what song that was and if there is a prince albul or other album that has it?

thank you for any guidance

the name of the song was Sweet Thing (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:O6jleai04x87~T1) originally by Rufus & Chaka Khan.

pretty ironic that Prince does a cover since he doesn't think much of people covering other people's songs..

Prince has covered people's songs many times before. Not exactly news.

didn't say it was. just pointing out another example of Prince's hypocracy.

I thought you were implying that it was the first time Prince had covered someone else's music before. Yeah, I understand the double-standard here. After all, when asked recently if he liked someone's cover of one of his songs, he was quoted as replying "No! I don't like anyone covering my work. Write your own tunes!" Yet, he's done Every Day Is A Winding Road, One Of Us, Honky Tonk Woman, Betcha By Golly Wow...and probably loads more.

There's probably argument as to whether the weight of your own original material will allow you to cover others' work and have it considered to be a "tribute" to them...or if you just have your own lack of original ideas. Prince has shown over the years that he doesn't have a lack of original ideas, but at the same time, I think telling artists not to cover his work and to write their own tunes, when he does covers himself, may be a little hypocritical.

BTW...to answer the original question:

There's not a version of that song on any of Prince's released albums. If he's actually recorded it in the studio, it may be lurking around out there on a bootleg.
