Finally, next July we'll get a Face/Off SE!

From The Digital Bits:

We've just gotten the following information from both industry and retail sources. I want to emphasize that this is very tentative and is absolutely subject to change. Also none of the dates you're about to see are officially announced. That said, here's a tentative list of major titles and special editions Paramount is working on for the first half of 2005. Some good stuff here...

2/1 - Cheers: The Complete Fourth Season, Frasier: The Complete Fifth Season, Taxi: The Complete Second Season

2/8 - America's Next Top Model: Cycle 1, 7th Heaven: The Complete Second Season

2/22 - Alfie

3/1 - South Park: The Complete Fifth Season, The Brady Bunch: The Complete First Season

3/15 - Star Trek: First Contact - SCE, Hogan's Heroes: The Complete First Season, Survivor: The Australian Outback

3/29 - Team America: World Police

4/19 - Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events

5/3 - Star Trek: Enterprise - Season One, Touched by an Angel: The Complete Second Season

5/10 - The Longest Yard: SCE

5/14 - The Daily Show with John Stewart: Season One

5/17 - Coach Carter, Island in the Sky: SCE, The High and the Mighty: SCE

6/14 - War of the Worlds: SCE

7/12 - Face/Off: SCE

Once again, keep in mind that none of this is set in stone and until it's official, it's not official. Stay tuned...

Still waiting for South Park: BLU to get an SE, but Face/Off definitely deserves the SE (as the best film Woo has done in Hollywood).

Face/Off is an awsome movie I'm excited for a special edition!

Hopefully Titanic gets a decent DVD treatment and gets released next year sometime. I'd love an audio commentry from James Cameron.

is that the movie with the birds flying around in slow motion, and two guys pointing guns in each others faces from only a foot or two away?
isn't there a big scene set in a church?
or am i confusing that with another movie-

There are similar images/scenes in "The Killer", a far superior film he did in hk back in 89, but yes, that definitely happens in Face/Off.

The Daily Show is being released on DVD? What is that like 65 episodes?

Let's hope it all happens.

Fantastic news! I hope it will be the Director's Cut of the movie (which I saw at a test screening and was superior to the theatrical cut, IMO).

Haven't heard whether or not it was the director's cut (I am just hoping it is). It was roughly 20 minutes longer. I don't recall specific scenes as it's been several years since I've seen either version, but I do recall liking the director's cut more than the theatrical cut.

The list that is currently on the Digital Bits ends with 5/3 - Enterprise Season 1. There is no mention of Touched by an Angel, Longest Yard, Daily Show, Face/Off, or any of the other ones that you mentioned after Enterprise.

Where did you get the rest of those dates?

By the way, you have The Daily Show with John Stewart: Season One coming out on 5/14. That's a Saturday.

EDIT - Ok, I just read my post and I sound like an asshole. I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just stating that as of right now, the Digital Bits doesn't have that full list that you have.

Fairly quick turnaround on Lemony as it doesn't even hit theaters till 12/17. I guess Paramount is expecting it to flop.

Not necessarily, five months is a pretty standard theatrical to dvd timeframe.

On the face/off SE - i hope the additions are substantial and not just a few featurettes... New transfer, deleted scenes and commentary would be nice. I'm hanging on to the current version until this thing is reviewed.

Can't wait. Not quite as good as "Hardboiled" or "The Killer", but it's easily his best US-made film. Too many good one-liners in this movie.

Was there ever any talk of an alternate ending to Face/Off? I have always felt that the ending was a tacked on "happy ending". It would have felt more like a John Woo film if Archer was stuck with Castor's face. I always thought that the whole face transplant was hush hush and the only people that knew how to do it were killed by Castor after he took on Archer's face. Also what was the point of Castor cutting his (as Archer) face at the end as he is croaking. Also why would Archer want his love handles bacK??

20 more minutes sounds like it'd make Face/Off way too long. It already feels way long at almost 2 1/2 hours.

He cut his face to try to make Archer mad and so it would be screwed up when Archer got it back. Duh. Or something like that.

Exactly which would lend to my point that there was or should have been a different ending, more in line with John Woo's tendancy of his heroes to always be suffering in the end. He gouged the face and burned all the people that knew about the surgery and at the end he comes strolling in no worse for the wear. Not even a scar from Castor cutting the face.

Maybe Paramount's holding off to use this, and other things like Braveheart, as 4th quarter holday releases, as they're more commercial. Either way, unlike most Paramount titles, this one's transfer could use a once-over; if I recall, it looks pretty dirty on the current release. Actually, I remember Braveheart's opening being a little dirty, too, and nowhere near as green as it should have been...hm.....

No, this is the one where there are scenes of a child in peril.

Um, actually yes to both. There is a child in peril during the film, but the climactic gunfight takes place in a church with lots of slow motion birds and the guys right next to each other or back to back.

Haven't seen this in years. It would be very cool to see a nice new edition.

I thought it was the one where there are barrels of explosives conveniently sitting around that get shot and cause large explosions!

Well, I sold my old one in anticipation of this :(. However, I haven't watched the movie in a long time and don't miss not having it, so I can wait, as I am very patient and in all honesty, the poor picture quality always got me frustrated.
