I'm not sure you should be giving opinions on the films if you don't even know how to spell Trek. ;)

Because I'm not buying any more of the Trek movies after this one.
Good to hear, let's hope for DTS.

As much as I hate double-dipping (got the big set when it came out) I will be getting this because it's one of my favorite movies. Costco had Generations for $12.00, so if this is the same, the double-dip won't hurt so much ;)

Sweet! Even though this will probably be the last Trek film I buy I'm still psyched (the listing of Face/Off SE on that list also has me excited)

Like everyone else, this will probably be my last Trek film. I immensely enjoy the first 6 films (even V), but this is the only TNG film I really liked.

The last of the Trek double-dips for me. No need to pick up Insurrection and Nemesis again.

Going to double dip on this one for sure. Insurrection I'll skip, not quite sure about Nemesis though.

Oh com'on guys, you know you want Insurrection...I know you do...just admit it. ;)
Well, since I never bought any of the old releases, I'm getting all the CEs. And since I'm using Ric Easton's great custom covers, you betcha I'm get'em all.

Also interesting to note is Season 1 of Star Trek Enterprise for 5/3.
That'll be good, because by then, I'll be caught up with Voyager. Just got Season 4 this week. Probably wait till January for Season 5.

I have to wait until frikkin' MARCH?!?? Damn. Oh well. I'll get it on release day, for sure. Fortunately, it won't be a double dip. I've been waiting for this.
And YES, I will also BUY a new CE/SE of Insurrection. I like that movie.
I already have Nemesis, and won't double dip.
The only CE/SE/DE edition Trek DVDs I don't have are Search for Spock, Final Frontier and Generations.

This is a must buy, and I will also buy the inevitable Insurrection and Nemesis SEs. The recent two are not nearly as good as First Contact, but if I bought Trek V, I can buy any of them.

Good to hear that I'm not the only one who likes "Insurrection" & "Nemesis"! As I said above, I'm definately picking this one up and cannot wait until the rest of the films are released with SE treatment as well. I must admit though that I've not been able to get into "Enterprise". This season's shows (S3?) look like they might be pretty good but on the whole, the previous seasons did absolutely nothing for me.

Me too. Actually, Insurrection is my favorite of the (mostly-mediocre) TNG movies. It was the closest to the feel of the show, and had the tightest writing.
The others are fun enough, too, I suppose. I'll grab all of the CEs. As long as it isn't Voyager or Enterprise, I'm pretty much a ST whore.

I liked Insurrection better than First Contact.
I didn't like the schizophrenic feel of First Contact - Dark, moody, extremely serious up on the Enterprise, but tongue in cheek humorous down on Earth. And they destroyed the characterization of Zefram Cochran from TOS and came up with a completely different character with the same name. Hell, with the way they wrote the character in First Contact it stretched credibility to think that he even bothered to build the first warp drive - it even stretched credibility to think that that guy could even come up with the idea and design a warp drive!
First Contact was OK, but I thought Insurrection was much better because the characterization was better handled.
I'm not sure if I'll double dip on any more Trek movies. I might get Insurrection, but I don't think I'll get the CE/SE of First Contact.

I like Insurrection quite a lot -- it's definitely better than Generations. First Contact is the best of the TNG Trek films of course, but Insurrection to me captured the tone of the tv series best, the relationships between the crew members, etc. It may be "slower" but I dig it.

That would be a great added feature, if it exists and if they'll include it.

Im sure it must exist in some form. The director said the finished product was like 2 1/2 hours before they trimmed it down. *shrug* I would like to see it available at some point or at least all those deleted scenes included since the standard version doesnt have that much.

OK, I may have been a "little" interested in an extended cut before but, after reading the info @ IMDB, I gotta see all these FUlly Produced scenes. If this is a 2-discer Disc one should bear this longer cut and disc two should reflect the usual extras. Here's to hoping!

I'm getting all of the remaining 3 CEs, since I don't have any of the original releases. I held off on the initial Nemesis because it wasn't the CE when they were already in the middle of the CE releases.
I'm hoping that the CE of Nemesis will be a DE like I and II were.

It's a little sad that this will be my last ever Star Trek DVD purchase. Only a super-duper SE of Nemesis would get me to buy that again.
Here's hoping for a DTS track. And hopefully, Paramount won't mess with the video transfer like they did with Generations SE.

I've bought all seven of the previous Star Trek Special Editions, and I'm looking forward to First Contact, so there's really no way I can avoid buying Insurrection. I don't really hate Insurrection, it just wasn't that exciting. Nemesis was the same, although if they release a 2-Discer, I'd buy that too. I'd really like to have that extended version though, I'd buy that one ever faster.

Some call it edge enhancement, others call it anti-aliasing but the fact is is that Data's face shimmers and shifts like crazy throughout the movie, as do other metallic surfaces and objects.

I would love to see the "alternate" ending edited back in to Nemesis. I thought it was a much better ending than what was used in the theatrical version.
I'd buy the CE for Nemesis if they did that (and added other previously cut footage), but it it's the same theatrical version I won't even consider it.

11-17-04, 06:02 PM
I am definitely getting this CE. I have been holding off on upgrading since Paramount started with the CE's, because I have a widescreen VHS of First Contact which is still in decent shape (just watched it last week). It will be nice to have the superior picture quality and all the extra goodies.
I'll also get Insurrection when it comes out...I am among those who enjoyed that film. Even if it was a glorified episode, it had one of the strongest social messages of any Trek film. For me it reminded me of one of America's past sins, the forced relocation of the Cherokee Indians during the 19th century.

About time.
FC's my favorite TNG film and I can't wait to get it. Here's for DTS, Borg designs, and some other fun s**t!
Also, I didn't buy Nemesis just in case of a new version, so here's hoping.

I'm watching First Contact from a rental and noticed that the Audio is one of those that have the effects and music pumped up , and speech way too low.....I hate when I have to lower the sound everytime there's 'action' .....I hope the reissue Collector's Edition fixes the audio. Complete specs from dvdanswers:
Paramount has announced the collector's edition of Star Trek: First Contact which stars Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner and LeVar Burton. This new two-disc special edition will be available to own from the 15th March next year, and should set you back around $19.99 in total. As well as a 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and English Dolby Digital 5.1 track, the first disc will house an audio commentary with director Jonathan Frakes and screenwriters Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore and a text commentary by Michael and Denise Okuda. The second disc will include a Jerry Goldsmith: A Tribute featurette, a Legacy of Zefram Cochrane featurette, a First Contact: The Possibilities featurette, a Unimatrix One featurette, a featurette on the Borg Queen and a Design Matrix featurette. Also included will be a First Contact Production section that includes featurettes on The Story, The Misile Silo, The Deflector Dish, The Art of First Contact, another feature on the designs of the Enterprise as well as a making of documentary. Completing the package will be a Scene Deconstruction which features the Borg Queen Assembly, the Escape Pod launch and the Borg Queen's demise, storyboards, a production gallery and both the theatrical trailer and teaser trailer. The only notable exception is deleted scenes. Our thanks to Gustavo from TrekWeb for the heads up. We're also awaiting confirmation on the inclusion of DTS.

Too bad about the lack of deleted scenes. Why is it that the only Trek DVDs to include those so far are 1, 5, 7, and 10, arguably the worst ones in the series? At this rate, the Insurrection SE seems like a shoo-in for deleted scenes.
And no, I don't count the director's cuts of Wrath of Khan or The Undiscovered Country.
Mike Lowrey
12-27-04, 09:14 PM
Deleted scenes are over-rated IMO. Unless they're put back into the film itself. I feel they're over-rated for two reasons. 1) Usually they're not in anamorphic widescreen, and 2) Sometimes they're just rough-cut dailies.
If the scenes are important enough and don't interupt the flow of the story, aren't redundant, and are complete scenes (f/x completed), they should be put back in film, especially for the DVD.
A lot of scenes are just cut due to theatrical time restraints or studio decisions. But for the DVD release, like they did with the recent King Arthur DVD, because those restraints aren't there.
And then there's always the branching DVD. Like the ID4, T2 Ultimate, and the Alien Quad discs. Pick whichever version you want.

I just completely disagree with that. A lot of scenes are cut because they just don't work that well in the overall product. Sometimes good scenes are better off on the cutting room floor. Though, we'd still like to see them, so as extras it's neat to see.
Now, in truth most DVD deleted scenes suck. Comedies in general have the best deleted scenes, but there are some films that have nice snippets that are neat to see, but really have no place in the film.
