Conservative groups protest "Kinsey"

Don't they ever learn, the more they protest, the more publicity it earns for the film.

Interesting. I'd never heard of the film, but after reading that article I can't wait to see it! Thanks, protesters!

"Alfred Kinsey is responsible in part for my generation being forced to deal face-to-face with the devastating consequences of sexually transmitted diseases, pornography and abortion," said Brandi Swindell, head of a college-oriented group called Generation Life that plans to picket theaters showing the film

Like that is a bad thing? I guess some would rather we brush everything under the rug and pretend everything is aok, those 'issues' don't exist in my fantasy world

Can't wait to see what these archaic right-wing conservatives say when they see Colin Farrell making out with Hephaestion in the soon-to-be #1 movie Alexander.

So these scenes were not cut or toned-down? Cool

They "plan" to protest. They haven't protested anything yet. It sounds like a stupid idea though. What has protesting a movie ever done besides give the film free publicity?

I think its stupid to protest. Even stupider to protest a movie. Its just a movie, go back to your jobs.

Good to know those moral values are at work!

As opposed to, you know, Constitutional values.

Whenever I read about "conservatives" who get all bothered about sex, it makes me more certain that most of them are like Ralphie from the Sopranos in their own bedrooms.

Hmmm

Maybe I'll have to see this movie.

Anything being protested by conservative christian groups intrigues me

I actually like to see a film get protested, no matter how silly the protest might be because it usually means that the film is challenging some viewers, either their beliefs, or what have you, and I think that's good for the medium of film to create controversy.

I've been very interested in this movie fo a while, Liam Neeson is one of my favorite actors, and I will definitely see it in the theater when it goes in a wider release.

Jesus,

Either I've been napping under a rock, but when exactly did we start goosestepping back into the 1650s?

From the article:

"Alfred Kinsey is responsible in part for my generation being forced to deal face-to-face with the devastating consequences of sexually transmitted diseases, pornography and abortion,"aid Brandi Swindell, head of a college-oriented group called Generation Life that plans to picket theaters showing the film."

Yes, because one single man is reponsible for human beings following their pre-ordained natural urges...

"Instead of being lionized, Kinsey's proper place is with Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele or your average Hollywood horror flick mad scientist,"said Robert Knight, director of Concerned Women of America's Culture & Family Institute.

What the fuck?!

Seriously, all this crap makes me want to give up on this country. Goddamn it.

Just got home from a screening, and the film is a knockout! Stunning performances from Liam Neeson, Laura Linney and just about everyone else in the cast, including Tim Curry, Oliver Platt and Lynn Redgreave. The movie is fascinating from beginning to end and guaranteed to drive the "red states" crazy, pickle shots and all!

Writer/Director Bill Condon was there for a Q&A, and seemed amused by the idea of protests - I don't think he's going to lose any sleep over some self-appointed moral guardians who will be hyping his film for him.

I agree. But the flip-side, the ACLU is even worse in their tactics to erase God from everything. But extreme rights and lefts have serious problems.

Protests, Prayer Vigils To Greet 'Kinsey'

Religious conservatives and family-values groups are planning to wage a battle against Fox Searchlight's Kinsey, about the pioneering sex researcher, when the movie opens in limited release on Friday.

In a statement on Wednesday, Robert Knight of Concerned Women for America charged that the movie "lionized" a man whose "proper place is with Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele or your average Hollywood horror flick mad scientist." Knight went on to assert that Kinsey "was the godfather of the homosexual activist movement, the campaign to mainstream pornography, and even the campaign to strike down abortion laws."

The youth group Generation Life, composed of "virgins and renewed virgins," announced that it would picket theaters showing the film. And the conservative WorldNetDaily.com has taken aim at the movie in the current issue of its monthly magazine Whistleblower, in which it charges that Kinsey transformed America "in five decades from the Leave It to Beaver innocence of the 1950s to today's wanton, 'anything-goes' sexual anarchy."

Man, it's people lik ehtis who make me dispise religion. Go back to opressing your wives and beating your kids and leave the rest of us the hell alone would you?

OTOH, I don't recall these sorts of protests doing much harm to The Last Temptation of Christ, or Life of Brian.

Yes, it's true.

And, dammit, you just know that Hollywood is going to gloss over all of the vivisections that Alfred Kinsey performed.
