SHREK 1 was out in widescreen correct?
..cause ever since S2 came out on DVD, I've seen nothing but foolscreen versions of Shrek 1. I've checked many stores and they all say that all they got is FF, and I believe them....Plus, I work at one of these stores. 200+ copies on Shrek 1 and no widescreen.
Anyone know?

Yep Shrek 1 was in widescreen. The version I got is the 2 disk limited edition that was released a couple of years ago.
Not quite sure why a 2 disk SE wasn't released for the sequel

Yes, the 1-disc version was issued at a time when Dreamworks was, like Fox, releasing 1-disc versions of some of their titles that were first released as 2-disc sets. Minority Report and Gladiator were two others like this. These 1-disc versions were simply the same first disc in the 2-disc sets already released. These were cheaper than the original release of course. In most cases, the second disc was just additional extras, so these versions were a nice alternative for those who don't care much for extras. It's too bad that the 2-disc versions went OOP though.
However, with Shrek, like others said, the first disc had a FS transfer and extras for kids, while the second disc had the WS transfer (and DTS track, commentary, and extras catered more to adults). The idea was that the kids would watch the first disc, because kids supposedly don't like widescreen, while the adults would watch the second disc. I remember people posting here who had popped in the first disc and were asking why it was FS only.
When the 1-disc version was released, the first disc was what was issued separately, just like the other titles. I wonder if whoever was making the decisions was even aware that the situation with Shrek was different.

It's in stock new at many websites still. Amazon, DDD, Buy, B&N, Columbia House etc. Ebay, Half, Amazon, and Spun.com have used copies also. As said earlier, its going to run you about $23.

Re: SHREK 1 was out in widescreen correct?
Sorry to bump an ancient thread like this, but I didn't want to start a whole new one for one simple question, and it looked like this was the place where it was being discussed the most...so,
Is the original 2-disc Shrek (first movie) out-of-print or not? I thought I remembered seeing pretty much everywhere that it was, but now I can't find information on it anywhere. I see it's for sale at a lot of different places, but did they re-release the 2-disc or something?

So it's basically like Fight Club. If I recall, the original box set went OOP, then they re-released it, so it's no longer considered OOP?

Second Spin and FYE B&M have plenty of them sealed (as used) They are $11.99 - with the monthly 40% off coupon, it's $7.20 + tax.

I'm not looking to get one. I already own it. I'm just trying to figure out if it's actually out of print or not. I think it was before, but apparently they re-released it, so I guess it's not out of print anymore.

It is back in print but many discount retailers have chosen not to restock it. Wal-Mart, Target, and K-Mart are only ordering the cheaper repackaged single disc release. Some Best Buy stores have also decided to just carry the repackaged single disc.
If you ever need a replacement copy, you got to go online.

Re: SHREK 1 was out in widescreen correct?
I bought a sealed copy at Half Price Books about a month ago for about $10. I have noticed every time I've been in there since that they have had a sealed copy available. Did a second one come in right after I bought mine and no one has cared? Or do they have a supply of them, and they restock each time one sells? I really can't say.
