Title says it all. Also, the album title "Bleedthru" is apparently no more.
Couldn't find the last thread discussing the album. If someone links I will update that thread and delete this one. :)
edit: Thread title is incorrect; cd "should" drop in March 2005. No exact date set.

Yeah, he's been saying it wouldn't be out until March since 10/18. http://www.nin.com/access/index.html
Hopefully it really is finished this year so next March can happen. The extensive touring is the part I'm excited about.

Trent also said that after this album he "will no longer have anything to do with" Nothing Records and his next album will be released through Interscope.
Isn't Nothing his label?

Not sure. He was involved in a lawsuit with Nothing last year. I can't remember what the circumstances were though.

I thought the latest title of his new album was "With Teeth," no? Anyway, can't wait!
I think he meant with teeth as a way to describe the album since it seems like he is scrapping the whole monophonic album idea.

Too bad I'm 65 miles from the nearest Best Buy. I went to FYE and CC during lunch. Both only had two copies of the dual disc(CD/DVD) version. FYE had it for $19.99 and CC had it for $14.99. I want the one with the two discs.

Hmm, the one I work at had it in, though we only had 8.
I'm diggin the bonus cd. The remix of closer sounds like a similar version to the one at the beginning credits of the movie Seven which I always thought sounded cool

Actually it's one and the same. The remix is by the band Coil and originally appeared on the CLOSER TO GOD CD single (and does appear in the opening credits of SE7EN) :
From what I see, the bonus CD is just a "best of" of the CD singles/B-Sides/Soundtrack contributions that were released in and around The Downward Spiral-era. I have most of them.

I have them all, but this is also remixed in SACD as well, and these are the best of the best so it's a special bonus.
About finding the discs, I found the opposite to be true in regards to who had what. Every store I went to only got 2 versions of the dual disc (literally, 3 different stores told me the exact same thing) and each got a good 20 or so SACDs. This was surprising to me seeing as how the Dual disc is a DVDA and effectively will play at least the lower resolution surround mix in any dvd player. It also has a nice menu and pictures to look at while it plays.
I bought both versions, and have yet to listen to the DVDA version yet. I think I will tomorrow. I compared the SACD to my previous favorite (Darkside of the Moon) and am very impressed. I can't decide which I like more, but since NIN had a much larger influence on my young life I'd lean that way.
Anyway, I can only hope the Fragile and future NIN releases get at least a Dual Disc treatment. I'd love to see the rest of Pink Floyds back Catalog and Tool as well.

I was out and about last night, so I made another FYE/CC run. CC still just had the two copies of the dual disc. FYE had one. No 2 disc sets at either. It's kind of silly for me to want the 2 disc so badly, since I already have most of what's on the second disc. I guess I'm just excited that something new is out. I found a good description of where the second disc is pulled from at http://www.9inchnails.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6961&st=20

I'm torn about getting this. I don't have a SACD player but may get one someday. And I already have all of the bonus songs on the various singles, remix CDs and soundtracks, except for the demos.
The remix of Closer by Coil got me into Coil and their large body of work. Great stuff, very eclectic. Sadly, their singer and songwriter, Jhonn Balance, passed away last week when, in a drunken haze, he fell from a second story balcony and hit the ground headfirst. I believe he was only about 42 years old or so.

Yeah it's definitely my fave NIN remix. That remix and the fact that Clive Barker loves Coil (they even began work on the musical score to HELLRAISER before it was nixed) got me into Coil.

Actually, the Precursor remix isn't exactly like the one in Seven. From various discography FAQs:
A remix of Closer appears in the opening credits of this film. This remix is based heavily on the Coil Remix of Closer (Precursor). It starts 45 seconds to a minute into the track and fades out before the end. In the words of John Balance, the remixer: "Actually, it was an independent remix done exclusively for the film. Based heavily on our Precursor Mix of Closer. We don't recieve a credit in the movie or video release which pisses us off even to this very day. The Lazerdisc DOES credit us in some way. I hate the way the film industry pisses all over the sources they derive their inspiration from."
I bought the SACD and it's great. The 5.1 mix is spectacular - Trent pulled out all the stops. The intro to "Reptile" just seems more disturbing now.
Trent just updated his website answering a few more questions. Most important: he's working on a surround mix on the new album ("with teeth") and hopes to release it at the same time as the stereo mix. He'd also like to do his other main releases this way (including Broken), but isn't looking forward to working with TVT so he can do it for Pretty Hate Machine as well.

I know some of you people must of heard the Hand That Feeds radio leak this weekend. I grabbed it off alt.binaries.mp3, it is quite low quality, but you get an idea of what the song is. Supposedly someone stole the low quality version from the video shoot and leaked it to dj's.
It's very dancy kinda distorted upbeat bass groove, verse/chorus type song...but I definately like it a lot...the vocals at times are kinda iffy, they almost sound unfinished towards the end...i knew i wasn't going to be blown away, i mean it's a radio single, but it's still pretty damn good,

It actually worries me in a strange way that I like the single this much. :) I didn't very much like any of the radio songs from The Fragile. I think Reznor's more "song based" approach may work out for the best; maybe he's one of those artists who actually improves by moving toward the more 'accessible' end of things.

That has to have been the worst e-commerce website ever. I realize that it was getting hammered, but I've never had those kind of problems with my cable modem. The site timed out several times and it took 20 minutes to get to the check out screen. When I clicked "Process Order", I get the old "Page Cannont Be Displayed" screen and I when I clicked "Refresh", I was taken back to the beginning and my cart was emptied. When I started the process over again, all of the tickets were gone. Fortunately, I printed the checkout screen and I've filed a complaint, so hopefullly some good will come of this.

Finally, my loyalty to the devil has paid off! I waited for hours in the bitter cold outside of theater of living arts and walked out with tix for both shows! I've been a fan forever and can't wait to get my chance to catch Trent at a smaller venue~this will be one of the best shows I ever got tix for. Can't wait!

I too tried to get tickets at 5pm with no luck and therefore was almost late to Motley Crue (philly traffic is awful for those of you who don't know). But I wouldn't blame ticketmaster completely. I would blame the scalpers. Take a look at ebay, tons of tickets for this show going for outrageous prices. The only way to stop this is to not buy from scalpers (or maybe threaten them with bodily harm). If no one would buy from scalpers (or ticket agencies as they like to be called) they would go broke in a week. I feel really bad for those of you who haven't seen NIN live yet, at least I did once on the fragility 2.0 tour.
Here's hoping that they come around again at bigger venues

I was going to call them ticketbastard, but am new to these boards and wasn't sure about what kind of language I was allowed to use.
Has anyone else ever had to buy through neweratickets.com? I tried this morning for Jimmy Buffett tix and the damn thing crashed halfway through the first time, then I had to clear my cookies to get back in. And thus got crappy seats. And to top it off you have to create an account to buy tix there. I hate sites like that!

samples from all songs on With Teeth.
Looks like they are just a few measures looped from each song for around 1:02.
You get a good idea of what the album supposed to sound like though..it's old school mixed with new school.
keep in mind these are just small parts of the song, so it's kinda hard to judge..."right where it belongs" is the piano ballad though, good stuff.
enjoy.
enjoy.

I like a lot, seems like there are a few catchy tracks on here. It doesn't seem so down like the other albums, not that there aren't some of those songs on here. Definitely a mix a of new and old.
Any get a Pixies vibe coming off a few of these tracks, specifically Getting Smaller?
Also Only seems like a good dance song.

'The Hand That Feeds' has begun airplay on radio stations worldwide.
The Hand That Feeds single will be released in the UK/Europe on April 18th. It will be available as a 2-track slimline and a limited edition 4-track digipack package. The digipack will only be available for the first two weeks of release. This single will not be released in North America. We will have a limited number of digipacks available to order from nin.com in the coming weeks.

I heard The Hand That Feeds on the radio yesterday, and wasn't blown away. While I am a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails, I can't say this is the greatest. It is very catchy, and goth night clubs will love it.
I will most certainly buy the album, and make a much more informed decision then. The Fragile took me almost a year to finally get into.

Read this on another forum:
"Although some albums have been issued only on DualDisc in the past, the most anticipated CD to get that treatment will be Bruce Springsteen's next one, "Devils and Dust," coming April 26. In May, the new ones from Bon Jovi and Nine Inch Nails will come out exclusively in the dual style."
Also this;
Well the details on the new Nine Inch Nails release "With Teeth" has been released:
There is both a regular version and a Dualdisc version scheduled for release. The regular version will have a $13.98 list price. The DualDisc be a 18.98 list and the features are as follows:
CD side is the full album in stereo.
The DVD side contains the following features:
Album in hi res DVD-Audio surround sound
Album in Dolby 5.1 surround sound
The Hand That Feeds video
In-studio performance videos of 'the collector', 'love is not enough' and 'every day is exactly the same'

I see what you're saying, but I actually welcome it. Pop sensability has it's place even in music that isn't 'pop'. It's what lets something like 'Climbing Up The Walls' on Radiohead's 'OK Computer to work well, as you're rescued from the ugliness and chaos of it by the structure and beauty of 'No Surprises' right after.
So it might feel better to you in the context of the record as a whole. Hopefully we'll all be happy come May. :)

It's so nice to see a 6 (so far) page thread on Nine Inch Nails. Ummm . . . FUCK YEAH!!
With that said, The Hand That Feeds is a little poppy. But, as a friend of mine said, unrelated to NIN, mentioned 'when did pop music become bad?'
I gave the obvious answer of Good Charlotte, Ashlee Simpson, etc. While they have given a bad name to 'pop' music, 'popular' music is not a bad thing. The new single is going to be popular. It's catchy, radio friendly, and 6 YEARS IN THE MAKING!!
True, Trent apparently had some troubles getting here (becoming sober, label issues, moving), but this will be a fun album. Yeah, fun. Fun usually is not how someone would describe Nine Inch Nails.
Long story short, I'm ready. Bring on the new album. Bring on the 5/3 and 5/4 concerts. I'll be bringing some NIN virgins, and I don't think they will be disappointed.

you have nothing to worry about. for the record, i'd like to say i like The Hand That Feeds but i can understand how someone could hear it and be frightened by what they hear. sure, it has a pop element to it but i think it works for what it is. with that said, 5 new tracks (4 album tracks and 1 bside) have leaked so far and the other 4 sound much less pop oriented.
the latest track to leak, Right Where It Belongs, is fucking amazing. words cannot do it justice.

It's impossible for every Nails fan to be pleased with the new stuff. They'll just have to deal. Speaking for myself, I think this could be Reznor's strongest work in 11 years based on what I've heard. I am of the general opinion that NIN is actually stronger when it goes toward the more 'accessible' side of the spectrum.
I was and still am very underwhelmed by The Fragile although there are a few good tracks in that bloated mess. With Teeth seems like it will be a huge step back into stronger directions for the band.

Listening to it for the third time now.
Honestly, it's really refreshing. I can just listen to it and enjoy it, a lot more stripped down earlier NIN stuff, though I love the Fragile also, this is nice to hear something different.
I think this album kicks ass, I'm very happy with it. Standout tracks for me are All the love in the world and right where it belongs..cause I am in a chilled out mood.
I don't think it took him a 5 years to write these songs, from his interviews it almost sounds like he camed up with this stuff in the past year just writing new demos and such. The other 4 years was the whole failure and rehab shit I suppose.

i had expected to like this cd. i loved The Fragile when it came out and still do, unlike a lot of people for whatever reason. i hadn't been disappointed so far so i figured why should it start now. then i downloaded this cd....and was completely FUCKING BLOWN AWAY!! i had heard a handful of the songs already but they really take a new dimension when heard as a cd and not individual songs. i'm really excited to see the packaging and liner notes for this disc and hear some remixes (heres hoping to some versions of Only, Everyday Is Exactly the Same, and Right Where It Belongs).
as Trip already said, most of these songs came about rather lately after the original batch were scrapped or put on the backburner.
FYI: in an interview recently Trent said that about half of the songs for the next record are already "done" and that he wants to finish it very quickly, possibly within the year. once i find the link i'll edit to add it.

Well, after two listens I can say that this is probably my favorite NIN album. While with other albums there were songs that I thought were GREAT while other songs were just OK, on this album every songs seems to be consistently really good.
My favorite part of the album when listening to it for the first time came at the point on "Beside You in Time" right before it got to the part that had been used in the short promo video on the web site. I had thought that sample was awesome, and I could tell by the way the song was starting to sound that that part was coming up.
Not sure if that needs a spoiler, but I'm glad I didn't know it was coming when I first heard it.

Great album. Have a question though. Near the end of You Know What You Are, the main theme sounds exactly like a past NIN song I just can't put my finger on, or am I just making an association that isn't there? Anyone that's listened have any ideas?

Actually listening to it now, it's right after he's yelling at about 1:55 into the song. I'm guessing I was just imagining it.
EDIT: Found it. Was thinking of a similar sounding part of 'The Wretched'.

I'll have to listen to the songs again to get the specific name, but one of them has a keyboard part that sounds like a Fatboy Slim song. Right before he starts singing in a high pitched voice.
I enjoy the album so far, and will pick it up the first day it comes out. I'm not interested in the shirt, so I won't bother preordering it. I may pick up a hoodie at the concert in a couple of weeks, though.
I'm curious what he is planning on doing with the cd/artwork. He sounds a little disenchanted with the whole process.

So there's going to be a standard edition, as well? I thought that this, along with Bruce Springsteen's newest, was going to be exclusively a DualDisc. Guess I read that article incorrectly.

there was an article posted on theninhotline.net that claimed that the DualDisc was the only version to be released in the US, and that all other countries would only see a standard CD edition. This is definitely wrong, as here in Canada, both versions will be available (though the DualDisc MAY be released on May 10th, but that hasn't been confirmed).
I still wish there was going to be a SACD release.

i thought what they meant was it would not be released in both SACD and DualDisc like TDS reissue. instead it would only be pressed in DualDisc but i don't think there was any question that we wouldn't see a standard cd version. i think that may have been some miscommunication.

"Only" is a real quirky song, it kinda seems like a Down In It 2...supposedly the next single. I like it in a weird way.
Also, if you haven't seen, Trent released Hand that Feeds mix in Garage Band format so that one can manipulate. It has been converted to aiff via torrent for people who just want to throw it in ACID or something.

The two songs actually share a lyric. "Just then a tiny little dot caught my eye" and "the tiniest dot caught my eye", in Down in It and Only respectfully.

All this NIN stuff has got me feeling so nostalgic. I used to report for The NIN Hotline from '99 till... Idunno, maybe 2001 under the alias "crimsonplague." It was good times.
I actually enjoyed the album more than I had anticipated. I'm looking forward to the show in Houston. Look out!

Just got my hands on a copy of "With Teeth". I'm really suprised by how listenable it is. I wasn't really expecting a verse-chorus-verse album from Reznor. I like it, it's just not what I was expecting after the demanding "The Fragile".

I find that most of the songs start pretty badly (ie: The Collector) or end pretty badly (ie: Hand that Feeds) for as long as 30 seconds, or they contain one lyric that doesn't work for me (ie: 'I got my hands in flip flop flip!" in Getting Smaller, but aside from that the song is probably my favourite) That doesn't mean they're "bad songs". In fact, aside from my dislike for certain intro's and outro's, the album is pretty fantastic. Another "bad lyric" is, in Only, he sings "there is no fucking you!" during the chorus. Lame. Without the needless "fucking" in that song, it'd be great for radio (it IS the next single, so we'll see how it's edited; it could be changed like Starfuckers, or it could just be silenced out).
I can't wait to hear it in high-quality DVD-Audio. mmmmmm...
this is one of the worst "mash-up's" I've ever heard. I think it COULD have worked, but this is just... insulting.

I was pretty surprised when I heard the radio single. I was hoping the rest of the album was better. Now that I've heard it, I like about half the tracks, but I'm sure it'll grow on me. I miss the angry Reznor though. I read an interview recently where he talks about the period where he did Downward Spiral, Antichrist Superstar and The Fragile as a really horrible time in his life and how he's in a much better place now. Congrats to him, but I kinda wish he was still there, in that dark place......

Well, that's a rip. One big reason why I buy music, rather than just download it, is to get the artwork. It helps to justify the cost. So now I pay regular price for a disc and if I want to have that I have to print out a sub-par copy myself? I really hope this doesn't start another terrible industry trend, like releasing a deluxe edition a few months after a disc's standard release.
That being said, I still bought the DualDisc today.

Yea I understand..I mean I would still buy it for the 5.1 mix and such.
He just got fed up supposedly with having to confine artwork to a cd package since it is a format that doesn't lend well to what he wants to portray. Or...could just be cutting costs.

Well, that's understandable. The heady days of vinyl album artwork are long gone. The RIAA's not making it any better by eating up more precious space with their anti-piracy warning label. It reminds me of when Bill Watterson ended Calvin and Hobbes because of the ever-shrinking space he was allotted on the comics page.
Even though I understand that reasoning, I still don't see why there couldn't be a comprise, like putting artwork with the CD and making it available online. Some artwork is better than nothing and you'd get to see it in all its glory. Or maybe it is a cost cutting measure, like you speculated.

Finally listened to this tonight, start to finish - something I haven't done for any other album in a long time. Wow. I love it. It's only been one listening, but my initial impression is that I like it better than The Fragile. The AMG review brings up a point that I agree with: "Quite frankly, this is the record that NIN should have released if Reznor had wanted to capitalize on the success of The Downward Spiral."
Now I really want to get a 5.1 setup.

Thanks for the link. It's good to hear from the horse's mouth, even though I still don't totally agree with him. A PDF file is great for those that get the album from iTunes or somewhere like that (in fact, all artists should do that for downloaded albums), but I still think that those that purchase the physical CD shouldn't be required to have internet access to get the liner notes and lyrics.
And I had to snicker when he wrote "when's the last time you really were impressed with a CD package?" When I read that I immediately thought about how cool the packaging for the Broken CD was and, to a lesser extent, The Downward Spiral.

In an interview a few months ago he also complained about how cheap and flimsy booklets are. He goes on to complain that the printing isn't very good. So to counter that he releases an extremly flimsy package and expects us to print out some silly poster on our home printers which are bound to look five to six times cheaper than what he could have provided us with. Not to mention that most people, unless I'm behind on the times, don't have a printer capable of making one large 27x40 inch poster. Time to get the Scotch tape out. He sits there and looks back on the old days and talks about how smaller compact disc's ruined artwork so he goes ahead and ruins it some more. I checked out the Acrobat file and found it irritating to navigate since you have a limited view on the screen. You can zoom out but then you can't read anything. Any time I get a nice, thick, colorful booklet with a compact disc I am impressed. I was very happy with The Fragile packaging but this is insulting. And as far as encouraging piracy, I think he succeeded as one of my friends, who was dead set on buying this yesterday, is having second thoughts and may not bother.

the Japanese packaging is the same with the exception of the obi strip and a Japanese language lyrics sheet. the packaging issue has been addressed by Trent himself and had it been up to him we'd have seen a much more elaborate package. i was disappointed at first but at the end of the day A. there's not much you can do about it and B. the idea of online pdf files (and the prospect of future files) is an interesting one.
the packaging, to me, does not look or feel cheap nor does it look like a single. when was the last time you saw a double fold digipak single printed on the matte side of heavy cardboard stock? the closest thing i can think of was the TDTWWA single and that was only a single fold. i'm just glad he didn't say 'fuck it' and put it in a jewel case. that would have been truly disappointing.

The discocraphy basically is just a listing of all the different NIN releases (albums, singles, etc). The cool thing is that for each album there are usually 1 or 2 songs available to listen to. It's not really that much more than that.
The album in 5.1 is excellent btw.
