World of Warcraft - Open Beta - Signup *now*

http://signup.worldofwarcraft.com

Servers have been taking a beating all day.. If you want a leap start on WoW its now. (hoping they wont do a wipe after open beta.. rumours are they wont, but officially no say).

If you dont get the 'new account signup' screen keep going back every 4-5 minutes. suddenly its there. They're limiting the number since their servers got hit superhard.

Awesome. Thanks for the reminder. I think that second page is an intelligence test or something. I went back to check previous pages for instructions twice before I realized the cd-key or whatever was printed right above where you type it in.

I would be very suprised if they didn't wipe them. I've never seen a game where they didn't wipe between beta and final *shrug*.

got my account and the game downloaded finally!
and now i have to go to work. there is no justice...

Downloading can be a bitch.. if you want to optimize, you can extract the .torrent file - its a resource in their installer - and use another BT client.

(or you can ask me and i'll email it to you )

Same here, I think they are just waiting to actually announce a wipe, so people keep playing.

The main reason I see them wiping, is because I don't think they have an easy way of connecting beta accounts to retail accounts in order for you to keep your characters (unless that is something they already have done, and are saving it).

Thanks for the heads up. I'm all signed up. Too bad I won't be home until late tonight, so it'll be a long time before I can download the client and play.

I think they will wipe with a few days left to lessen the number of people who will play on day 1. They are forced to wipe to a degree, the main reason being dwarf mages.

I left it going overnight and it was complete by noon today. Their "downloader" is really just a crappy bittorrent client. I'm guessing it tries to do some kind of autodetection on your upstream bandwidth and throttle accordingly (they'd be stupid not to); but in my case it didn't work for shit. It completely saturated my upstream and made my connectiton unusable for anything else.

I had to use Netlimiter to throttle the client and after that, the download speeds improved substantially. I'd recommend that everyone do that or what ravan suggested and use another bittorrent client.

OK. I'll likely give this a try when I get home. I'm just reading the "Getting Started" stuff at the WoW site. They mention that we need to pick Realms (servers). So which one is everyone here going to be on?

We should all, like, you know, hang out or something.

Looks like due to overwhelming demand the Beta has been shut down.

The beta wasn't, but new signups are.

So slow, so very slow to download. Argh.

When does this end? I'm assuming that with the release date being November 23, that they'll end Open Beta a couple days before that. I hope to at least get a weekend out of this.

Sucks that they had to close down sign-ups, but it is a sign that there's high demand for this game.

PC Gamer has a decent "Starter Guide" in this month's issue, which I got in the mail last night.

Crap, I tried to get in on it last night, but found out new sign-ups were shut down. After I'd already installed the stupid thing.

Just wondering if anyone else is playing already...

I love the game, so much better than FFXI. I'm a Night Elf rogue, level 10, on the Mountain Time PVP server, Test 12. My elf's name is Enochroot. I just got duel wield. This game rocks!

I got in just before they were full. I let it download all night and only had about 400 megs of the 2.4 gigs so far. I can do any internet-thing on my computer because the dsl line is saturated. Oh well, i just unplug my downloading computer from the router when i have to check something with the other computer.

Oh man I didn't know that you had to sign up after you downloaded. Now I got a 2.5 gig client, friends who want to play with me, and no key to get in

If you created an account ID/password when you downloaded the "downloader" from Blizzard's website, then that's your login for the beta account.

If you somehow got the "downloader" without creating an acct on the Blizzard website, then you're probably SOL.

For those experiencing slow download speeds, I strongly recommend you either use some bandwidth throttling program like Netlimiter (I believe they have a free trial), or apparently there is a way you can extract the .torrent file and use your own client that can throttle itself.

deftones, the latter may help you resume your download.
