Recording DVD to VHS

I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I'll give it a go. I need to copy about 5 minutes of a movie on DVD to a VHS tape for a presentation. Is this possible? Is the DVD copy-protected from doing this? It's an original, store-bought DVD. Thanks in advance!

Conversly, I need to copy 3 VHS movies to DVD, BUT they are PAL and I need it to be a Region 1 DVD.

Thoughts, solutions?
