My shelves can hold no more DVD's....
#4
I also put my DVDs on my shelves tonight (the extra ones I had piling up on the floor and elsewhere I was too lazy to put on the shelves before) and I came across the same problem...ALL MY SHELVES ARE FILLED TO CAPACITY! And this is after I purged my collection of several titles I sold to Blockbuster for their trade in deal. So I am currently in the market for some good sized and inexpensive DVD shelving.
Which brings me to my next question: why is it you can buy a certain amount of wood that assembles into a bookshelf for like $40.00 in the store but put that same amount of wood into making a DVD shelving unit and suddenly the price skyrockets $150.00. Talk about price gouging!

The cheap ready-to-assembly bookshelves are usually made from cheap but heavy particle boards. They are mass produced and so are very cheap.

The type I am looking for (though maybe not as wide)
But they aren't cheap. Buying one would force me to sacrifice many future DVD purchases.

If you're going to make the storage units from scratch, use PINE instead of Oak and you'll save a lot of money. Many hardware stores carry 1" by 6" PINE boards in foot lengths of 6'-12' and they'll cut them for you to your specifications.
