Michael Bay started Shooting "The Island" nextdoor

Hey all,

Director Michael Bay ("Pearl Harbor," "Armageddon") is shooting some action sequences here in Detroit for "The Island", slated for release this summer. The sets are quite interesting..... Just thought i would share. Actually, they are setting up a large car chase scene right now....

That's all,

Matt

Why is it called The Island? Will we have car chases on a secluded island? I trust Bay would find a way!

Always excited for a new Michael Bay film I know he's one of DVDTalk members' favorite punching bag of a director, but his movies are always fun to me. Toss in Buscemi, Johansson, and Ewan, and i'm excited

I'm usually not excited about Michael Bay's films, but he suckered me into this one with that cast. Scarlett Johansson Ewan McGregor, and Steve Buscemi.

From IMDB.com

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0399201/

A man (Ewan McGregor) goes on the run after he discovers that he is actually a "harvested being", and is being kept along with others in a utopian facility.
Islands can have roads.

it could be Jeep Wranglers for off road (although with a Utopian society probably not) handling if roads are not applicable for the film, but seeing as how a car chase is planned I am sure roads are a sure thing.

Where at? I don't want to break into your house tonight, I'm just curious where he's shooting.

Were in detroit? Maybe I can be a walk-in extra or something, everyone needs there 15 minutes. You cant have a Utopian society without a 6'3" black guy.

Oh, well, since you brought it up, *I* beg to differ.

<------- The forum racist.

Sounds neat. I didn't know that Michael Bay was currently doing anything. Can't say I'm thrilled though. I love Bay's movies. But sci-fi movies like this are VERY hard to pull off. For every five, there's one or two good. They're often so forgettable, I can't even cite a good list of examples. Well, you got your Paycheck, your Imposter. Then you got your Total Recall and your Terminator Trilogy.

Michael Bay does "The Prisoner"?

Hmm. I suppose that when he does the opening credits with a car crash...

... it's going to REALLY fucking crash. For, like, 20 minutes.

If Bay can keep it short and just blow as much shit up as possible, then sounds ok. That's what Bay's good at...pretty images and blowing shit up, so hopefully he sticks to that and keeps the runtime under 2 hours.

Then I'll watch it.

How do you like someone that makes a post to where people will ask tons of questions, and then has not showed back up to check his thread.

Geez!

Hey all,

Sorry about the delay -- Mike has been shooting in Front of the Penobscott building on Fort Street all week. If you follow the imdb link above and go to the message board for the movie, there's a tentative filming sched. under the "detroit filming" thread. The main actors seemed to only be on set on Monday. It's raining pretty hard today -- i wonder if he needs any rain shots? Anyone have any new news on an updated filming itinerary, or some more info on this Detroit situation?

Oh, no tattered flags.....

Thanks,

Matt

"The Island" On-Set Pics

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news04/041103g.php

Dreamworks' "The Island", the Michael Bay-directed sci-fi thriller about a near future society involving a lottery whose prize isn't all it's cracked up to be (hint: it's got something to do with cloning for spare organs) is currently shooting in Downtown Detroit and 'Rob' dropped in these bird's eye view of Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson and extras filming a scene. The movie opens next July:

Hey,

What ties, if any does/did G. Lucas have with the making of this film? I recall hearing about it somewhere, but I cannot find it in print.

Thanks,

Matt

Damn. No face shots of Scarlett.

Although her recent pics on http://wireimage.com she seems to have lost some weight especially in the face.
