Father of the Pride unofficially axed

Not Much Pride Left at NBC
Source: The Hollywood Reporter November 1, 2004

NBC is pulling the new CG-animated comedy Father of the Pride off the schedule for the November sweep, says The Hollywood Reporter. The remaining episodes will air after the sweep.

During the sweep, the show's Tuesday 9 p.m. slot will be taken over by the network's new reality series The Biggest Loser, which will be expanded from 60 to 90 minutes, running from 8-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays.

Given the long production cycle for the $2 million-per episode animated series, the network was expected to make a decision an additional nine episode order for the show shortly. In light of the show's high cost and soft ratings, that order is now considered unlikely.
Knew it was going to happen, but it still sucks to see it in print. I really enjoyed it. It was a nice opening act for Scrubs, and some of the S&R bits were hilarious! I'm looking forward to a nice DVD release.

I've only seen it twice (and both episodes I thought were only mediocre), but watching this show in HD was jaw dropping. It was the best show I've ever seen in HD, and I will definitely miss that aspect of it.

...and it's being replaced with a "reality" show.

Why am I not surprised?

I was starting to like this show... it was a little deeper than the usual sitcoms.

Yeah it's shelved, not cancelled.

But more likely than not, it's game over.

So if NBC only ordered 13 originally, then this was only going to be a 13 episode season no matter what. Think about it, it takes 9 months to animate an episode, so say they ordered the back 9 in October, they wouldn't be ready until July anyway.

(By the way, 7 have aired and 6 remain unaired)

What's the November sweep? So does that mean we'll see the remaining 6 in December or next year?

Aside from S&R, this show really lacked. It looked fancy, but I could tell that regardless of how it did in the ratings, chances were slim it would have either a long season or many of them due to the amount of money and time they had to invest in each ep.

It wasn't the worst idea ever. Maybe if they fire all the writers there'd be some hope for it.

That's the thing. This show did have a lot of possibilities but the writing just really tanked it. I mean really really tanked it. I usually only chuckled maybe once an episode if that. I like the way it looked, characters are decent enough I just didn't laugh at all.
