Tarantino's next project (maybe):Kung-fu film shot in Mandarin
Now we all know that any future project that Tarantino announces has to be taken with a big grain of salt, but it would be cool if this project actually happens. (kind of like if "The Cruel Tutelage of Pai Mei" was a feature length film). Anyway this is according to an interview he did with Total Film (UK film magazine):
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...lm/3972737.stm
The only part that I think is a bit dumb is having a version with an out of synch English dub track. The genre of 1970's HK martial arts films are finally getting a bit of mainstream respect, and now QT wants to do something to make them a joke again. Oh well, other than that, I would be all over this film.
Tarantino set for Mandarin film
Kill Bill director Quentin Tarantino has announced his next project will be a kung-fu film shot in Mandarin.
He will also shoot a second version of the film, dubbed with a deliberately out-of-synch English soundtrack.
"I enjoyed shooting all the Japanese stuff in Kill Bill, so much so that this whole film will be entirely in Mandarin," Tarantino told Total Film.
"If you're not up to watching it with subtitles, I really want to do a full-on dubbed version," he added.
"Maybe shooting two Kill Bill movies has spoiled me."
At a press conference in April this year, the director had intimated that his next project would be the World War II film Inglorious Bastards.
But he told Total Film magazine's editor, Mark Dinning, that his homage to cult 1967 action film The Dirty Dozen would have to wait a little longer.
"Everyone still thinks I'm doing Inglorious Bastards next, but before I do that I want to do something much smaller," said Tarantino, whose films have included Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
The director did not offer any further details as to release date, plot details or cast on the untitled project.
"He just wants to make a genuine martial arts film with all the ideas he has spilling over from shooting Kill Bill," said Mr Dinning.
"His new kung-fu project has Tarantino written all over it - a mix of the barmy and the brilliant that film fans will be excited about seeing."

Maybe he's directing Kung-Pow 2.

Huh, I'll believe it when I see it. Still waiting on The Inglorious Bastards, Kill Bill Vol. 3, and the Vega Brothers movie.

QT, babe, how 'bout dropping the kung-fu, the pop references, the hip songs, all the gimmicks and all of the bullshit for once in your life and let's see if you're capable of doing anything with any real substance, or at least something different for Chrissakes. To use another indie auteur as an example, why not forgo the usual shit and make something small and genuine, like

My only hope is that in his quest to emulate old school martial arts films, he also emulates their ability to actually make their films in a timely fashion.

Eh, I'd much rather Tarantino keeps making films like he has before, as opposed to trying to please people who don't even like his films.

For once I would like to see him direct a film where not one person gets killed. Just for simple curiosity's sake. Not one person killed or murdered.
I wonder if QT has it in him.

I think QT is a good filmmaker, he excels at what he does. I don't really think he should go out of his range unless he can pull it off. I'd rather see him keep making the films he's good at then experimenting and making something crap.

The thing is I like his films a great deal. I own all of them. I have many of his scripts. When a QT film opens I'm there first day, first showing. But it's getting old. A great filmmaker has range. Eventually tries different styles. Different stories, ideas. Mix it up for Chrissakes. Do something completely out of left-field.
QT is still a pretty young dude. Hold yer horses.
