Avril's got a burr in her ass

From Billboard:

Avril Agitated Over Lip-Synching

While she can relate to the pressures of learning how to play live and work an audience for the first time, Avril Lavigne says she takes exception to the practice of lip-synching, which has been in the news thanks to a slip-up during Ashlee Simpson's appearance last weekend on "Saturday Night Live."

"You know what, there are a lot of people out there today, who have become stars or famous musicians -- I wouldn't really define them as a star -- with a record only because they have connections and only because they have money and for the wrong reasons," Lavigne tells Billboard.com. "And it sucks. Actually, I know for a fact there are some young female artists who don't even sing on their own records and who don't sing live. And that is pathetic."

She quickly adds, "I got signed because of my voice. That's what [Arista head Antonio] 'L.A.' Reid signed me on. He said, 'Wow, you are only 15 and you can really sing. I'm going to sign you.' And I've never lip-synced once."

Way to go April, fight the good fight.

Or, just STFU and go away.

While I'm not an Avril fan or anything, I agree with everything she said.

Well, she seems like a fake sometime (and I am sure she is some way eg punk rock girl) but I have no problem with what she is saying. Although this has been going on for years. But recently (last .. maybe 15 years) to take someone who has no voice and just correct it after the fact just because they are pretty (or whatever).

I don't dig her music, nor do I think she writes it and the songs sound a lot alike but they are catchy, critics have actually started warming up to her and she has taken a lot of shit. So I say good for her.

And I do remember seeing a 'live' show, I think it was at the RnR Hall of Fame, and believe me she was not faking it. Actually, not terrible (alley cat terrible) but she was definitely live.

The only real problem I have with Avril is the image they try to portray of her as this indie punk chick, when in fact her music is just above-average rocked-out pop.

i applaud her for the stance against lip synching. but she should remember that she had professional songwriters writing her hits. same kinda lame.

I agree with what she said about lip-synching, it's just pathetic that instead of just speaking her piece about it, she had to brag about herself in the same article.

I agree.

She plays an instrument and doesn't lip-synch, and that's alot better than the the Britney's and Ashlee's out there... but still a long way from being a real musician/artist.

So, Coral and scarredgod, Elvis Presley isn't a real musician/artist?

Who better to stand up for artistic integrity than the singer of "Sk8er Boi".

Woah there. Frank Sinatra never wrote any of his own stuff. You're not going to call him lame now, are you?

For some reason, rock musicians have to write their own material. I've never understood it. Jazz artists do entire albums of another artist's work all the time and get critical aclaim. Virtually every country artist uses or has used outside writers. Huge performers like Sinatra never wrote anything. But lunkheads in rock bands are virtualy required to write their own stuff or they're considered corporate whores. It's a shame, because a lot of bands could benefit greatly from some outside help in the songwriting department.
