Bush named 'Movie Villain of the Year'
Sherna Noah

It was not the vote he was waiting for - but US President George Bush has been named Movie Villain of the Year.

The US leader has been awarded the title for his part in Michael Moore's controversial documentary Fahrenheit 9/11.

Bush's presidential rival John Kerry was not in the shortlist, but Bush has managed to beat four other contenders to the movie title, including evil atomic scientist Doctor Octopus.

Doctor Octopus, played by Alfred Molina, is the frightening metal-tentacled madman who does his best to wreak havoc on the world in Spider-Man 2.

Bush was also deemed a better baddie than Leatherface, the chainsaw-wielding cannibal in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, in the Total Film magazine poll.

Lord of the Rings pixellated character Gollum, played by Andy Serkis, was also shortlisted, but eclipsed to the Movie Villain title by Bush for his unintentional part in Moore's documentary.

Daryl Hannah

Kill Bill's Elle Driver, the eyepatch assassin played by Daryl Hannah, was also shortlisted.

Total Film editor Matt Mueller said: "It is possible that people have been a little bit tongue in cheek here, but they are also saying that Bush was very scary in Fahrenheit 9/11.

"He was absolutely terrifying in that film. He looked like a man who had lost control - the famous scene where he sits there in a school, absolutely paralysed, after being told about the twin towers, is just one example.

"Fahrenheit 9/11 was a huge box office hit. Lots of people saw it and movie-goers are saying that there's no one like George Bush to strike fear into people's hearts."

Almost 10,000 film fans took part in the poll, by post and online, for a series of 19 Total Film Readers' Awards.

The awards can be seen in the next issue of Total Film magazine, which goes on sale on November 4.

Actually, it's a reasonable assessment by way of quantity. There were a deluge of anti-Bush documentaries in theaters throughout the whole year.

If they had named FDR Villian of the Year, you might have a point...

So because we helped them out in WWII, they're not allowed to criticize our President? What they fuck do they have to do with one another?

Well, it makes sense in that there is a Bush character in the fictional film Fahrenheit 9/11.

Almost 10,000 film fans took part in the poll, by post and online, for a series of 19 Total Film Readers' Awards.
Hmmm.... online poll? What have we learned happens with online polls when Bush is mentioned?

I'm surprised Bush beat out Leatherface. I'm sure they would have split the vote, being kill-happy texans from crazed, greedy families...

An online poll to bash Bush has as much credibility as Moore's little diatribe Fahrenheit 9/11.
I can just picture Moore voting 1,000 times for Bush.

No no, it's that they'd be speaking Russian.

Why are real life people being compared to movie villains? I think the self hating americans (Bush haters) are starting to confuse all of the political jibberish with reality now... Even if you disagree politically with someone that does not make them Darth Vader or Freddy Krueger.

Grow up people...

So you don't believe in freedom of speech for the citizens of a country because the two countries fought as allies in a war 60 years ago?

I'm not understanding something here.

There's a big difference between being "self hating" and a Bush hater. I don't hate myself at all.

I think you need a Q-tip. By that rationale we should no longer be able to criticize the French. If it weren't for them Scott Sapp would've had to sing 'God Save the Queen' at the last Red Sox game.

Well, this is the problem with mixing politics into a silly movie poll like this. Just look at this thread, instead of a jovial conversation about who was a good villian, it's a political talk about George Bush and such. Sure, there's nothing wrong with putting him in there, but he really has little in common with the other film characters spoken of, and hell isn't really a good villian. Hell, if they had a "favorite zombie" poll I wouldn't want to waste my time talking about John Kerry.

Nonetheless, I would've voted for Doc Ock or maybe Elle Driver before Mr Bush. Cohorting with Saudi's is hardly as entertaining as tentacle arms and destruction or an eye patch and a black mamba snake.

What the world thinks of Bush (not the sex organ)

What Bush thinks of America - He has no opinion on the world
