I wonder how it compares to Donkey Konga, which is a blast but I can see how it could get tired fast.

I just got it at the TRU deal too, but haven't opened it yet. When you play two players (is that all multiplayer goes up to?) do you have to have another drum set? Because unlike Donkey Konga, I didn't see a separate set out...

Yes, it's only 2 player, but the second player can play along with the standard controller. I don't think you can buy the separate drum yet. There is a drum by RedOctane that EB and Gamestop should have. But at $39.99, it's kind of expensive.
This game is really fun, and addictive as hell. Even though it's similar to Donkey Konga (both are made my Namco) I actually like Taiko better. Taiko has a much better song selection and graphics. Donkey Konga has the advantage of being 4 player, though. Both are are party games, which is why multiplayer is where both games truly shine.

Sorry...Didn't mean to sound so crappy.
Are there plans to release follow-up software to use with the Taiko drums? One of the things that influenced my decision to buy Donkey Konga was that Jungle Jam looked so cool and I actually want that more. I'll be surprised if they go to the well again after that, however. We'll be lucky if we see more DK songs.

Yeah, Taiko is huge in Japan.
I'd say there's probably a decent chance of having a second one come out. What's after that depends on everyone out there.
And, btw, that RedOctane Taiko drum is VERY good.
It has better face sensitivity that the Namco one, but its rim sensitivity is slightly worse. Overall, I'd say it's the same or perhaps slightly better than the official drum.

Thinking about the scenario where Nintendo introduces a different version of the Donkey Konga video game including new songs within the next three to six months, how likely are you to buy or receive this new version of this video game?
And don't forget that we're also going to get the Donkey Konga: Jungle Beat game early next year, which also uses the bongos. There's a glowing hands-on preview of the game up at IGN.

Has anyone been able to find the drum controller by itself in stores? All of the Gamestop's around me have not received it yet, don't know about EB (as I have credit at Gamestop).

I just got this game as a present for the Mrs. She loves it. I'm enjoying it as well, though someitmes I wish the drum was a little more sensitive. Maybe I'm hitting the face in the middle as opposed to the right or left where the sensors are. Why do they have R and L sensors anyway? Do higher difficulties require you to hit one side of the face or the other?
One questio for game owners : Do you take apart the stand and store the drum back in its box or did you just toss the original box? Taking it apart every time seems like a hassel

I'd go with NCS (above), or
Lik-Sang:
http://www.lik-sang.com/
Play-Asia:
http://www.play-asia.com/
Video Game Depot
http://www.videogamedepot.com
I've ordered from a lot of import places, and personally think that these four are the best.
