For a film history class, I have to do a brief research paper contextualizing a foreign film made before 1940. We screened Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Ark in class, and I was floored by the film. Is his Vampyr comparable in quality?

I'd like to know.

It is a great film, undoubtedly, and has a very dreamy/trance-like quality... but different from The Passion...

Passion of Joan of Arc is one of my favorite films. Vampyr, while it has it's merits, comes no where close IMO. I doubt you would be "floored" by it. Also, the quality of the transfer of Vampyr I saw as terrible. Again, unlike the Passion.

I'm hoping for a new DVD with a new transfer in 2005. I haven't found the Image disk for rental do I can finally see it and I don't want to buy it because of reports of a bad transfer.
