female DVDVDTalkers...which actors are hot? not?
After checking out the thread on actresses who are hot and not (I must not be the only female who was curious..interestingly one of my DH's favorites was panned)...
I was wondering who do the females on this site think which actors are hot? and not? (but overhyped as hot).
Here's my list (I'm middle aged pushing 50 so that probably influences my choices)...
Hot
- Chow Yun Fat ...still hot (even my daughter likes him) and a great actor although most of his English language movies haven't beem good
- Viggo Mortenson
- Colin Firth
- Clive Owen (yes, I like British guys)
- Tony Leung (a bit young IMHO), great actor too
- Jude Law
- Johnny Depp (admire his acting too)
- Russell Crowe (this one I'm embarrased to admit, is a jerk in real life but I'm one of the woman who that he looked great in Gladiator much to my teenage daughter's dismay)
Not
- Orlando Bloom (my 17 year old daughter likes him, too boyish, can't act)
- Ben Affleck (a male Barbie doll, about as bright as one)
- Brad Pitt (ho hum, boring, never understood why people found him attractive)
- Ashton Kucher (I like that hairstyle in the 70s when I was a teen, don't now...besides he has the personaility of a board)
- Sean Connery (was hot but once he hit 65-70, no longer so)
- Harrison Ford (was hot, age has caught up with him too)
- Pierce Bosnan (looks like a maniquin. too bland)
- Ewan McGregor (like him as an actor but doesn't do anything for me)
- Jack Nicholson (I never understood his rep..yes he can be a great actor when he choose to be...but uck!)
- Al Pacino (was hot, age has also caught up with him)

In regards to the "Lord of the Rings" actors and since you mention both Viggo and Orlando (in your "not" list) I thought that Karl Urban (Eomer) and David Wenham (Faramir) were much more interesting and charismatic.
Colin Firth - out of all the great actors in Love Actually both he and Emma Thompson really seemed to make their characters quite credible and stole the movie from everyone else IMO.
if Clive Owen wasn't in King Arthur - I don't think I could have endured this turkey of a film.
hey I like Ewan Macgregor - "Your Song" from Moulin Rouge was the standout scene from the entire movie.
Other British actors:
Jeremy Northam - another actor that can carry off his good looks, and acting ability to great affect.

giving some props to Josh Lucas

John-IN-Va women do look at looks although personality can trump looks, especially in real life.
I've often found that men who are extremely good looking (in real life) are often vain which is a major turn off. On the other hand, a guy who is ordinary looking can become more attractive in your eyes due to a great personality.
Before I got married, a dated a number of guys...most would be considered average attractiveness (although I found them very attractive because I liked them), only one would be considered extremely attractive but he didn't know it and wasn't vain. Of course, I think my husband's great looking and a wonderful guy and has gotten even more attractive in the almost 20 years we've been married
Anyway, to comment on a previous message...
I also liked Karl Urban and David Wentham too ...
Another favorite of mine (who is considered odd as a choice by some people) is Alan Rickman, especially in Sense and Sensibility (n, not in Galaxy Quest..). I also really liked Ciaran Hinds in Persuasion (Like a lot of women, I have a thing for Jane Austin adaptations).
On my NOT list, I have to add Hugh Grant...I'm so tired of his face and his one-dimensional acting.

I hate to leave out one of my all-time favorite actors, Harrison Ford, but he's just not one of the first actors I think of when I think "hot" anymore. Still, he doesn't look bad for 60+. Here's my top 10 of current working actors:
1. Johnny Depp
2. Brad Pitt
3. Ewan McGregor
4. Jude Law
5. Mark Wahlberg
6. Tom Welling (ok, not that accomplished an actor, but who cares )
7. Christian Bale
8. Sean Penn (i can't explain why..i've just always had a crush on him and his flat nose )
9. James Franco (i predict he will be huge one day)
10. Jared Leto (cut the hair, now..it's not working for me...still very hot though)
I'd like to know where Leonardo Dicaprio's hotness went. He used to be in my top 5, but since "Titanic" I haven't really found him all that hot. I prefer the "Romeo and Juliet" and "Basketball Diaries" Leo, but that's just me. And Ben Affleck's hotness went out the window for me with his crappy recent movie choices. Maybe he should just host SNL all the time, because that's about the only time I still find him attractive.
I also left out a lot of actors who used to be really good-looking to me (like John Travolta, Mel Gibson, Richard Gere, even Christian Slater) but now they're a little further down the list. I don't think it's really an age thing, because George Clooney's just outside my top 10. Maybe it's because they've been in the biz so long, they just don't excite me as much anymore. And by "excite" I mean "interest", "intrigue"... err...um...nevermind
Ok, on to "not hot". Even though I've liked a lot of his performances, and he seems like a nice guy in interviews, something about Tom Cruise and his toothy smirk have always annoyed me. I've just never found him all that sexy. Plus, I'm taller than him, and I like wearing high heels occasionally. Colin Farrell and his caterpillar eyebrows don't do it for me, either. Also, Vin Diesel = not hot whatsoever. I'm also not on the Orlando Bloom or Jake Gyllenhall love trains. I'll stop there.

OK nobody's mentioned Denzel Washington yet - he's hot and talented and therefore always on my list
I'm still on the Tom Cruise train along with:
Taye Diggs
Orlando Bloom (you can just include most of the LOTR cast)
Jimmy Smits (the only reason I'm still watching West Wing)
D.B. Wong
Daniel Dae Kim
Adian Quinn
Colin Firth
Johnny Depp
Some guys who I just don't understand the attraction
Brad Pitt
Russell Crowe
Edward Norton
