Country music icon GEORGE JONES released his first recording, “No Money In This Deal,” in 1954, making 2004 his 50th Anniversary as a recording artist. He had his first big hit “Why Baby Why” in 1955. According to Billboard Magazine, George Jones has “charted more singles than any artist in any format of music.”

Called the greatest living country singer and, according to the late Waylon Jennings, “the singer that all singers wished they sounded like,” George continues to record new projects and perform more than 90 concerts a year. Now 73, he continues win acclaim and even won a GRAMMY as Best Male Country Vocalist when he was 67 years old!

Available as a 2-disc set, 50 YEARS OF HITS contains 50 songs, one for each year THE POSSUM has been in the business. Although credited with 875 songs and with 943 albums (850 are probably repackages) and box sets issued by both Mercury and Epic, this release marks the most comprehensive collection ever assembled on George Jones. It also marks the first time that the artist has been personally involved. Many of these songs have been out of circulation for years, as most of the compilations that are released use similiar songs over and over again. This is truly a special, unique and complete package from one of Country music’s living legends.

Looks good. It looks like they've omitted some key songs by limiting it to one song per year? The ones that are jumping out for me are "If Drinking Don't Kill Me (Her Memory Will)" and "Still Doin' Time". Not sure what year's those came out at - somewhere between 1980 and 1982. I've got those on his Anniversary collection - two of my favorite tracks.
