By Andrew Wallenstein

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - Glenn Close (news) will join the FX police drama "The Shield" as a series regular for its upcoming fourth season.

The Emmy-winning actress ("Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammermeyer Story") will appear in all 13 episodes, which go into production in January. The new season of "Shield" will premiere later in the first quarter next year.

Spoiler:
Close will play a new captain at the Farmington precinct where she will oversee Detective Vic Mackey, played by Emmy-winning actor Michael Chiklis.

Close will next appear on the big screen in the Merchant Ivory production "Heights."

Great news...an excellent cast is getting better.

Spoiler:
I'm assuming Benito Martinez isn't leaving the cast, just that he'll have a new role as Councilman AssInvadah

Sounds interesting. Glenn Close can play a real ballbuster.

Still about 6 months away.
These cable schedules are really pissing me off!

Ugh! Great news on the casting... BAD news about timeframe. Looks like their production scheduling is going the way of The Sopranos.

Whenever I see the name Glenn Close all I can think of is Fatal Attraction and a sink.
