Dan Kelly's odd comment in his review of 'Close Your Eyes'

I read Daniel W. Kelly's DVD review of Close Your Eyes at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=12771 and I'm just ondering what he meant when he wrote the following:

This DVD delivers a 2:35:1 anamorphic widescreen presentation. As a result of the aspect ratio, even widescreen owners will still see black bars.
I'm wondering, what did Daniel mean? Was he trying to imply that it was a badthing? Was he simply pointing it out (a fairly unnecessary thing for regular DVDTalk readers)?

It's no big deal, but it seemed odd to mention a general fact about dead space on widescreen televisions in a review of a certain movie and disc.

I learned a long time ago when studying computer programming to always assume that the end user is an idiot. In other words, make sure things that smart people will take for granted are explained anyway, that way you cover all the bases (because there WILL BE idiots in your audience). I think that's all he's doing.

Hey guys. Dan Kelly here. Thanks, Numanoid. I did indeed describe a 2:35:1 movie as "enhanced for 16X9 televisions" once and had someone write to me and complain because I didn't say that it was "letterbox" even on widescreen televisions...so, in order to try and appease everyone all of the time, I now throw in that extra bit...

Ah, gotcha.

I would have figured that explaing letterbox to DVDTalkers would have been redundant... sad that it is not so.
