Jerry Lewis commentaries

If you're a fan of Lewis, you have to be excited about the recent releases with commentaries and archival footage. I'm happy to report the behind-the-scenes clips are priceless. However, Chris Lewis (the DVDs producer) really dropped the ball concerning the commentary tracks. Instead of what should have been an informative session with the Man himself, we have Steve Lawrence (of all people) presiding with Jerry over a gap-filled lovefest, Lawrence laughs and tells Jerry how wonderful a gag is, but rarely draws him out to get any kind of anecdotes. While there are some good tidbits to be found on these tracks, all-in-all they are a potential great oppuntunity missed. A shame. Anyone agree?

If it weren't for Steve Lawrence, there would have been no commentaries. They were recorded in December while Jerry Lewis was in a treatment facility recovering from his addiction to Prednisone--so he had little else to do. But his good friend Steve Lawrence was the only person willing to sit down with Jerry--and someone whom Jerry trusted--for that long a time to record all of the commentaries. It was that or nothing.

It was hoped that Peter Bogdanovich and Francis Ford Coppola would be able also to record commentaries with Jerry. While they were willing, the scheduling couldn't be worked out in time.

The only one I've heard is for The Nutty Professor and it was pleasant enough, with some interesting information.

But yes, a lot of self-congratulatory nonsense and a LOT of repetition. Yes, Stella Stevens was pretty ....attractive ... gorgeous ... great looking ... etc. etc.

And yes, Jerry, we caught on to the fact that you held the patent on VideoAssist.

Ya know, it's Jerry.....you would think that they could have made it happen.

Any news on Who's Minding the Store and It's only Money? These were two of my favorites that weren't released in that bunch that were released last week.

Who's Minding the Store barely missed this batch. It seems as if it's being saved for the next batch.
