help choosing final fantasy game (PS2)
Hey,
I need help choosing a final fantasy game to buy for my brother-in-law for Christmas. I want to have an idea of what to get incase a sale or coupon comes my way so I can buy it. To my knowledge he has only played the one for NES.
Thanks

That's easy. Final Fantasy X. That was the first for the PS2. There's a sequel, FF X-2, but it isn't as good or very interesting for someone who hasn't played FF X yet. FF XI is online-only and requires a $100 hard drive. By default FF X is your only choice. If he's a disney fan, Kingdom Hearts would also be a good choice, though.

I agree FFX would be the one to get but FFX-2 is pretty darn cheap already so if you really like him you could probably get both really pretty cheap by Christmas. Just an idea.

What everyone else said above.
If he's only played the ones for the NES, there's still the ones that came out for the Playstation which are playable on the PS2 (but he'll still need a PSOne Memory Card)
Final Fantasy Chronicles - Has FFIV (originally released as FFII in the states) and Chrono Trigger (another great rpg IMO)
Final Fantasy Origins - Has FF I and FFII (never before released in the US)
FFVII, FVIII, FFIV
All should be priced at $19.99 or under. I didn't list Final Fantasy Anthology because there have been some issues with its save files on the PS2, and an rpg is not something you want to have corrupt saves for. Give Sony a call at 1-800-345-7669 for more info on the corrupt saves. (I think it's Anthology and not Chronicles which have the save issue).

I was thinking about picking up FF Origins... but isn't a better version coming out for the GBA soon?
