GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!

SpaceBoy

Go Sox, although I don't see this game being played because of weather up here.

If so, may we have another meorable k Brown outing 2/3rd of a inning like 6 earned. :)

Should be interesting if so, Arroyo was already saying how will be pitching inside, and he had 20 hit batters this season. Just once I would like to see Jeter try to fight, haha that would be funny.

Just remember, if the Sox win the first two, we're right back where we started -- only the series is a 3 game series and not a 7 game series. Just need to sweep the Fenway series and see waht happens.

huh?

This game is not happening. No way.

Weather.com reports Thunderstorms with 100% precip. chance tonight.

I hope hope hope hope it rains out. I don't want to miss this game and I'll be on a plane from 9:30 to 10:30 Eastern Time.

I love living in Boston. The following in a re-enactment of a conversation I have with God every year.

----

Me: Gee... it's almost November and it's still sunny and 70 degrees. Wow what wonderful weather we're having.

God: Oh, my bad. [flips the switch labeled "cold and shitty"]

Me: God, why can't we just have "cold" instead of "cold and shitty?" New York has "cold," Vermont has "cold," everywhere around us has just "cold." Even the Upper Peninsula of Michigan gets "cold." Why not us?

God: The Curse.

Me: But I'm a Braves fan.

God: They too once played in Boston.

Me: Oh.

Have you seen them play in weather like your having before?

What does everyone (especially Astros fans) think of this. Carlos Beltran is playing in the playoffs for the Astros, and putting over the Cubs in the newspapers.

"I feel good hitting in that ballpark. It's a great hitter's ballpark. You could see that from their lineup. Almost every one of those hitters hit more than 30 home runs."

"It's fun to play over there. The fans are good fans. The ballpark is sold out every day. I'd like to see what's going to happen in the off-season."

"They have a lot of pitching over there," he said. "Unfortunately, this year they didn't make it to the playoffs, but those guys have a good team."

"It doesn't matter to me to get as much money and be in a place I don't feel happy," he said. "I just want to be happy, have a chance to win and be in the situation I'm in right now."

He also was talking about the Yankees, but gotta love his love for the Cubbies

Also does anyone else find the bold part funny, in that if they would have made the playoffs he wouldn't have.

Weather question....does "precipitation" = chance of rain? Or something else entirely. For instance...does 23% precipitation mean there is a 23% chance of rain?

I don't think there is a chance in hell Houston would let a division rival sign him.

23% means that there's a 23% chance of rain during that duration of time.

Or, in other words, in 100 similar situations, it'd rain 23 times.

Well, since it's a playoff game, normal rules don't really apply.... but Fenway's not exactly a water-repelling technological marvel.

[looks out window]

It's not raining now... so that might be a good sign. But it probably means that since it's not raining now, it's just going to rain more later.

Well we have cool and shitty right now in NY and Im sick so maybe God will have mercy on me tonight and let the Sox rediscover the art of hitting a baseball.

It is raining at Fenway Park in Boston, and the field is covered with a tarp. The commissioner’s office said a decision on the status of Game 3 of the AL championship series between the Red Sox and Yankees will be made between 7:30 and 8 p.m. EDT.

Doesnt look good :(

From a post on Sosh:

Gammons on Schilling: According to a coach, he looked "pretty good". He threw 70 pitches (including long toss) and the last 40 were out of his normal motion. They won't know more until they see how he recovers and he throws another bullpen session

Latest update:

Not officially cancelled yet, but it doesnt look good. Its drizzling now, but will start raining like a bastard at about 9-10. Announcement coming at 7:45

Reebok made Curt a special shoe and ankle brace. Al Leiter said Curt looked good in the bullpen session.

I always wonder why football, a game that is much more physical and injury prone can be played in rain, sleet or snow, yet baseball players can't get their footsies wet.

Its not like Brown and Hernandez cant use the rest...Plus Mussina is a dainty little fellow who also enjoys the extra day.

If Schilling pitches again, expect Jeter, Cairo, and Lofton to bunt thier asses off.

Im going into conspiracy mode.

It was well known yesterday that it was going to rain hard tonight. The Red Sox even had a contingency plan for ticket holders in today's papers for a rainout. Everybody in Boston knew it was raining and they kept putting of a decision. The AP reported it postponed awhile ago and then retracted the story. The Sox opened the gates and sold refreshments. The local Fox pregame show kept saying that they were awaiting a decision. The weather reports had not changed at all. Its going to rain like hell. Still no word and the national Fox pregame show comes on.

They had a fuckin graphic showing that the game was postponed! But they still went on saying that no decision had been made. Then they played 2 sets of commercials before officially announcing it.

Francona press conference:

Bronson tomorrow, Wake in game 4. Probably Lowe in game 5.

"Why not have Pedro pitch game 5?"

"Because I dont want to!"

um..ok

chrisih8u
10-15-04, 08:42 PM
So it looks like:

Game 3: Arroyo/Brown
Game 4: Wake/El Duque
Game 5: Lowe/Mussina :yack:
Game 6: Pedro/Lieber
Game 7: Arroyo/Brown

Anyone agree?

chrisih8u
10-15-04, 08:45 PM
I think if the series is tied, Lowe should pitch game 5. If the Yankees are up 3-1, I would throw Pedro out there. The only things set in stone now for the Sox, are Arroyo and Wakefield.

Meh. Unimpressed. I'll trade you that whole list for one Bob Gibson. What is the worst pitching staff to win a World Series?

Even though they all had decent years

Jose Rijo
Tom Browning
Jack Armstrong
Danny Jackson
Norm Charlton (!?!) / Rich Mahler
With Scott Scudder mixed in in 1990 was no prize.

Theres probably ALOT worse (in the 30's) but this is the first one to pop into my head.

 That's a clever sig, Tommy.

Just FYI, I'm not sure where you got the idea that I don't think you know anything about the game unless you post a lot. I've never said word one about my post count, and it's simply not true that I care about such things. I simply find it obnoxious that you wouldn't show up to be a sore winner until 1 game into the ALCS. And that you speak in extremes, casting anyone who disagrees with you into the far opposite opinion as you regardless of what we say or don't say. That's annoying. I do like the sig, though.

Absolutely. Of course this year, it's been shitty vs. shittier, as opposed to last year. For example, last year his Home/Away ERA was 3.26/6.61. In '02 he was great anywhere: 2.10/3.04. But, yeah, Fenway tends to treat him a lot better.

4.55/6.21, which doesn't looks as bad as it could. But his BAA at home is .281 and away at almost .320. Plus, he had a very poor September, despite the improved defense behind him.

If the Cardinals win this year, it will be theirs :D I think that only one of their pitchers, Marquis I believe, has an ERA of less than 4.00 (3.71). But, as we've seen this year, your pitching staff only has to be "good enough" to accomodate your offense. And sorry, you don't get to count your bullpen....just your playoff starters.

And BTW-

About Beltran....if he can be gotten, Hendry will get him.

It might involve a 10 team deal, but Hendry will get him.
