Gentlemen,

I have a proposal for you. Version 9 of the Diamond Mind game has an option to play games over the internet.

I play in a regular Classic Fantasy Baseball league over on ESPN which drafts players based on the years in which they played. We began with 1900-20, 1920-30, 31-40, 41-45, 46-50, etc. This ESPN Classic Game is basically Diamond Legends - and Diamond-Mind is essentially the sim that powers DL.

A few of the guys from that league wanted to try out a Diamond Mind league. But we still need a few more interested parties to complete the league. We will start with 1927 - the first available historic season and work our way forward.

We'd draft from all of those who played during 1927 and then play out the schedule. When we'd get to 28, we'd have an entry draft for newly available players and add those to our whomever remains from our past team.

You'll actually be managing your team online against other managers.

When we get enough players, we'll draft a league constitution and iron out details.

If you want to check out the game go to www.diamond-mind.com.

The game initially costs $49.95 - with much smaller fees after that for new roster updates. I don't remember the exact price but it should be there on the website. I know it's not el cheapo but, IMO, it's definitely worth the price of admission.

If you're interested send me an email. This should be a lot of fun - we're all big baseball fans and have a lot of fun competing against each other.

Yup. :)

Those little buggers drove me crazy.

I notice your Duques are getting knocked around lately?? How can that be??

C'mon. I know there's a bunch of you out there who want to draft Babe Ruth or Walter Johnson.

I tried to start over with the Mynochs... after about five minutes of training them for their big comeback, I remembered why I gave up on them in the first place.

You should join us in this Diamond-Mind sim. It's a little more interactive that SmallBall. :D

How much time does this require? I ask since my time is somewhat limited now that I have things to do.

Well, it all depends on how much time you want to put into it.

The draft and draft research will probably take up the bulk of your time - that's how it is with our other leagues anyway. After that, owners will work out times to play their games online - each game takes about 20 minutes. And we'll probably play 4 to 5 games per week.

However, you can set all your manger tendencies and lineups beforehand and allow the computer manager to play for you whenever you're short on time. I imagine that many people will try to schedule games during the day at work. I know I will. :D

Basically, once the draft is finished you can play as much or as little as you like.... just monitor your statistics, team record and adjust accordingly.

How is this different from Strat-o-matic...the real or online version?

If you understand Strat-o-matic, you understand the general gameplay, but I think D-M is a more comprehensive and in-depth simulation without the cheezy graphics. I didn't see a demo on the D-M site but there's kind of a walking tour here:

bump... one more time for any interested parties. Looking to start rounding up the troops next week sometime.

Is there anywhere else you can buy this game at? I'd like to try it out but $50 is a steep investment.

I used to play the board version of Diamond Mind. Actually, even the original PC game. I never upgraded and stopped playing. But it was totally awesome.

My problem is that it sounds like you need two owners to coordinate to play games at the same time. We've seen how well that works with SmallBall. rotfl

My time online is limited to late night (and I'm on the west coast). So I'd have to have the computer play all my games for me, which would suck.

Well, I do have an idea... but it's going to require a little imagination.

Go to the strat-o-matic website and download their free demo.

If you mess around with that for a little bit, you'll have an idea of how the game is played... but Diamond-Mind is a more in-depth simulation with greater flexibility. Then you can go over to D-M and check out their walking tour.

So basically, if Strat amuses you, you should really like D-M. It's stat-geek paradise.

Well, I know that the guys we've got in the league so far are very willing to work out scheduling. I think that with this game, as opposed to smallball, there's more of a desire to show up for games. lol

And some members of our group live on the west coast as well. I imagine there will be a fair amount of simulating but we'll also try to match divisions with location so that people on similar time zones will play the majority of the games against each other.

We have a near-completed constitution ready if any of you guys on the fence want to take a look.

We're currently ironing out the remaining details on the league message board.

If you want to take a look, let me know and I'll send you the file.
