November 9. How the hell did this slip by all of us? Unless there was a thread, in which case, it probably was missed by many, as you'd figure to hear a lot about this set around here.

If I was to guess, Die Nibelungen might be a 2-disc set.

I'll pass.

Eureka/MoC will release superior editions of Spies, Metropolis and Die Nibelungen in the UK next year...the Kino editions of the former, as well as Woman On The Moon, are barebones besides.

Egads.... didn't even see that . Damn, usually I'm more observant. Now depression will set in

I was looking for a description on their website but there was no mention of it being a 2-disc set.... other than listing a butt-load of extras.

This is the Kino release of metropolis. Just bundled with 3 other Lang films.

kino has great prints though...its not criterion, but it's great. Just watch the metropolis disc vs the best Public Domain copy and you'll see what your paying for.

Cameron isn't kidding. One of our local universities shows classic movies on the local Cox channel. Some time ago they showed Metropolis and it was nearly unwatchable.... the film was in bad shape.

Shortly afterwards, I eagerly picked up the Kino disc and it was a revelation! Damn what a great job they did with it!

Essentially true...but bear in mind the German R2 for instance is not compressed onto one disc as in the case of the R1 Kino..is actually 25fps (PAL) the same projection speed as the film itself and also features the 'Original' intertitles.

I can second the fact the the Kino version of Metropolis is beautiful. What a masterpiece this film is. I haven't seen the other films of Fritz Lang so this would be a blind buy for me but after my experience with Metropolis, I don't think I'd be disappointed.

I'm not easily floored but some of the scenes in Metropolis gave me goose bumps. It is that good. The extras with the commentry and restoration documentary make it a "must have" DVD.

I too can attest to the quality of Metropolis, but I would also mention that Die Nibelungen looks great as well, and it's quite a spectacle. It may not be everyone's cup of tea though, as it is a bit thick. But if grand iconic idylls are up your alley, definitely check it out. I personally thought it was great.

The Eureka Masters of Cinema DVD of Metropolis is supposedly going to have the same transfer as the German Transit disk which is the best out there. They are also going to include a German intertitles, poster art cover and booklet (28 pages I believe) along with it. The movie will also be split over two discs rather than being all on one disc. I'm going to wait for reviews of that one before buying this movie but it looks like it will be a better edition than the Kino one. I was very happy with the MOC disc of Michael so I'm expecting great things with Metropolis. Too bad for me that the Dollar is so weak right now. It makes importing these DVD's an expensive proposition.
