DVD Player Recommendation Needed...
I currently have a Samsung DVD-HD931 and I don't like it. The remote is difficult to use (you must press every button twice!) and the player loads menus, etc. very slowly. (And it won't skip any warning screens!) Movies look great on it, but all-around it's a pain to use. Which it something that you should never say about a player that costs as much as it did.
So, can anyone recommend a progressive-scan player that also has a DVI output that's actually user friendly? How about the Zenith Model: DVB318?

I'm actually looking for a link (that I havent been able to find yet ) ... about how to go about the process for selecting a good DVD player. Ive seen a consolidated thread in the past on all the things to look for and how to chose one (based on budget, features, usage, capacity of other HT components etc)
anyone know the thread i am talking about?
thanks!

Most people buy the Zenith DVB318 for it's up converting capability over component. It can up convert over DVI too but has a "white crush" problem. A firmware upgrade fixes that but it also disables up conversion over component on copy protected discs. For the price it's hard to beat but you need to determine what your needs are. I'd suggest reading the DVD player forum on AVS. It has a FAQ thread on the Zenith as well as a wealth of info on other DVD players.
I own the Canadian LG equivalent and it performs pretty good over component at 720p.

Here's something else I forgot to add, the Samsung HD-931 either doesn't recognize the flags on anamorphic DVDs, or doesn't know what to do with them, either way, unlike my Daewoo player and my digital cable box, the Samsung doesn't send the signal to the TV telling it to change to widescreen mode. Thus, I have to get the TV remote and manually change the screen size. Yet another pain with this player.

One of the serious shortcoming of the Samsung, besides not upconverting on component- black crush on the DVI output, due to using the PC levels on DVI for black, rather than consumer TV. Zenith/LG messed it up the other way around, using PC levels at the white end, apparently.
This player is very good bang for the buck depending on your needs but it's still a $160 player and can't compete with higher end players. I bought it because I see no point in buying a quality $$$ player with HD DVD on the horizon.

BUMP!
I want to put a DVD player on my Christmas list. Does anyone have a definitive suggestion? I don't want to get stuck with another "user unfriendly" player like my Samsung.
