Pioneer DV575 ... do you recommend it?

I'm thinking of upgrading my old cheap Chinese TCL DVD player into better machine... I found this Pioneer DV575 adv in some magazines and sites... anyone have this player? Is it good?

How is it compared with Philips 727 ... which I think is also affordable enough? Which one would you recommend?

I'm not familiar with that Pioneer model. However, I have the Philips 727. For the price, it's great as a hackable all-region player, whcih also does PAL to NTSC conversion. However, I find it a bit quirky sometimes in navigating my way around a disc. It sometimes doesn't want to go to the menu screen, or it only wants to "play" instead of chapter skip. Still worth it to me for what it CAN do, though. If I wasn't interested in the multi-region, PAL capability, though, I think there are better units to be had.

I was under the impression that the 727 is no longer readily available and is replaced by the 642, though.

Oh? So Philips 727 is actually older than 642? How's 727 progressive scan capability?

Yes, I think the 727 is older.

Sorry, can't help about the progressive scan, as I have analog.
