Veronica Mars 1.03, "Meet John Smith" (10/05/2004 - or is it???)

Description from TV Guide:
"Meet John Smith"
Spoiler:

A geeky sophomore asks Veronica to help him locate his long-gone father, but the search hits a wall when it appears the man may be dead. Elsewhere, Keith meets with Veronica's guidance counselor; Veronica goes on a date with Troy; and Duncan stops taking his antidepressants, which leads him to have vivid dreams.
Note, this may or may not be pre-empted in your area due to the VP debate, so check local listings (or Zap2It). NYC gets it on Saturday, 10/9 at 8:00 p.m.

Is your affiliate airing the new episode both on Saturday and on Tuesday, or are you getting two different episodes? It'd be annoying if my affiliate were continually a week behind others, so I'm hoping it's the former.

Yeah, it looks like they changed it---UPN 9 is now showing it next Tuesday, and is showing an episode of Enterprise on Saturday.

I've noticed through my replay that MTV also runs these episodes but they seem to be 2 weeks behind. They showed the first episode this week, while UPN was showing a repeat of last weeks, but it was okay cause I missed the first 15 minutes when I caught it the first time.

I checked the schedule and this episode isn't on this weekend in the NYC area. I don't know what episode will air this Tuesday yet, or if MTV will rebroadcast.

I just watched it, and was not impressed. Worst one so far. Veronica is still really likable, as is her friend and her father, so I will keep coming back.

This was an okay episode, with many subplots getting started (Veronica's dad and the lady from her school possibly hooking up, but with Paul Marshall on the show, she be the kiss of death for pretty much all the shows she appears on, this doesn't bode well).

Veronica's ex-boyfriend might be going off his anti-depressant meds. He was acting a little off-the-wall, but then cooled off on Veronica again.

Veronica appears to have a boyfriend in the new guy that keeps sniffing around her.

The actual case of finding John Smith wasn't all that interesting. Even the big reveal wasn't all that shocking (then again, I saw Nip/Tuck's season finale last week, but I can't say I'd been all that shocked if I hadn't).

That Justin's voice was really grating on me. Whiny little bastard. I thought he'd end up banging the woman in the video store, I had no idea it would turn out like it did.

I liked the ep well enough. Enough to stick around for the rest of the season anyway. The story wasn't all that good, but I really enjoy the characters. Plus Veronica was too hot in those dream sequences. Mmmm.

I can't keep these teenage boys straight-- they all look alike in this show. So who was it that Veronica went to see at the end of the show? Was that her ex boyfriend, or the new guy?

The new guy. Her ex was the one who is on antidepressants, stopped taking them, saw his dead sister, then decided to take them again. He also brushed Veronica off at the end of the episode.

I agree that they all look alike though.

Thanks. I thought it made more sense for it to be the new guy, but that guy's housed looked pretty fancy so I thought it might be the ex. (And it was a dark scene so I couldn't tell).

Although, new guy is also rich, right?

Just caught up with it last night, pretty good IMO. I don't care for the bad boy biker and teenage villain (Logan?) characters, so them not being in it much is a plus. That evil teenage kid that torments her is so cartoonish. I hope they stay away from the more violent aspects of high school harrassment (rape, slashed tires, etc) that made the first couple episodes kind of unpleasant.

Was that Sharon from NYU playing the guidance counselor? If so, she is aging badly.

same here.

I just watched my recording of it and it looks like Enrico Colantoni is staring right at her chest when opens the door when he goes back to talk to her the second time.

I liked the episode. The main story with the boy was a bit lame but the parts that are about her life are good.

I didn't see the ending coming either about the fathers identity.

I hope that the plots are not all as wild as this one, with the sex change. Otherwise, it is veering into Nip/Tuck territory

I have to say that Veronica Mars is one of the best looking chicks that I have seen on TV in a long time. There is something just inherently attractive about her, without her being all sexed up.
