Eisner Retiring in 2006: Song of the South at Last?
The recent news that Michael Eisner, embattled CEO of Disney, is going to retire in 2006 has raised the interest of many Song of the South enthusiasts. Could this at last be the chance we've been waiting for? Recall an excerpt of Roy Disney's email to me back in February:
"Dear Mr. Willis - thanks forr letter of support, and I am sorry to tell you that this is yet another reason to do our best to move Eisner out. He has been - far quite a few years now - totally against (I think AFRAID is a better word) of re-releasing Song of the South, which happens to be one of my favorite of the old Disney films. A number of us have tried, for some time, to change his mind, to no avail."
Assuming that Eisner is indeed the only thing standing in the way of Song of the South being released on video/DVD, this is very good news indeed! However, some new questions are raised: since the rest of the acting Board supported Eisner during the tumultuous shareholder voting period back in May, could that suggest that they also support his decisions on Song of the South? Also, does Robert Iger, the current Disney president who is largely speculated to take Eisner's place in 2006, support Song of the South's release?
Incidentally, 2006 will be Song of the South's 60th Anniversary. Perfect timing!
incidentally, it was very similar to the letter I wrote to Bill Hunt(editor of The Digital Bits) asking if he has any news about this.
I can't tell you what I would give to just have this film on DVD!!!! It's also the #3 most wanted title at amazon. I think something might happen.

They can be found. You just have to look for them.
I would buy an official version in a second though if it were released.

I hate to bring bad news but you do NOT have the real thing. "Song of the South" has NEVER been legally released on DVD ANYWHERE in the world.. You own an illegally ripped copy of a Laserdisc.

What is the big deal about Eisner being afraid to release this movie? Because there are black "Slaves" in the film or the use of the term "Tar Baby"? Who the hell would protest this movie? The NAACP? It's such PC nonsense. Rap music is far more lethal than this "Racist" movie. Sorry I'm venting only because this is the only Disney movie that has any redeming value. What do you guys think?

I think you guys are just getting into an argument over the meaning of the term "rip." Ripping is supposed to mean making a perfect digital copy of something, which is something that can only be done with a digital medium such as a CD or a DVD. AFAIK laserdisc is an analog medium (although they can have digital soundtracks), so you can't make a perfect copy, but some would call making an approximate copy (as with a VHS dub) "ripping."
Anyway, I would like to see SOTS on DVD, but it sounds like it's going to be at least a couple of years before it happens. Releasing it in 2006 for the anniversary would be nice, but if they can't start working on it until Eisner leaves, it could be 2007 before we see it.

Regardless of Esiner being in charge of Disney, I think disney will not want to touch this title for the simple matter of how much noise this has made.
If you did a search, you would come up with previous discussion about this:

then there is this old discussion about SotS:
