We are going to purchase the 47" Panasonic PT47WX54 TV from Costco for $999.99 and we wanted to know if we needed to get a TV stand for it.

Or will it be OK sitting on the floor?

A similar Unit (Panasonic PT47X54) appears to be a floor standing unit (http://www.onecall.com/ProductDisplay.mpt?ProductID=22655&FEID=130&PMNID=838#)

Do you really want to buy a TV you have never watched before? The question you ask indicates you haven't seen it in person.

If i had this unit it would be pointless for me to buy a stand for $300 when I can get a beautiful metal/glass shelve rack in which you can accomidate many lovely electronic components ;) it would look more awesome beside that beauty unit too with front speakers at the far end of each corner.

I have this TV, and it is a floorstanding unit. Very nice picture, you can look at them at Circuit City etc, same brand, same size, and 1 digit off for the model number. If you are any type of builder, you may want to consider a base 3-5" high to set the tv on, I find that it is just a little bit low for my viewing position.
