Do I need a TV Stand for a 47" Projection HDTV?

We are going to purchase the 47" Panasonic PT47WX54 TV from Costco for $999.99 and we wanted to know if we needed to get a TV stand for it.

Or will it be OK sitting on the floor?

A similar Unit (Panasonic PT47X54) appears to be a floor standing unit

Do you really want to buy a TV you have never watched before? The question you ask indicates you haven't seen it in person.

If i had this unit it would be pointless for me to buy a stand for $300 when I can get a beautiful metal/glass shelve rack in which you can accomidate many lovely electronic components it would look more awesome beside that beauty unit too with front speakers at the far end of each corner.

I have this TV, and it is a floorstanding unit. Very nice picture, you can look at them at Circuit City etc, same brand, same size, and 1 digit off for the model number. If you are any type of builder, you may want to consider a base 3-5" high to set the tv on, I find that it is just a little bit low for my viewing position.
