And We Wonder Why It Takes So Long...

... for the general public to accept and understand HDTV, 16:9, Aspect Ratios and the like.

This thread is from an HDTV Enthusiasts message board and is quite possibly one of the most ignorant, misinformed threads I've ever seen.

If these people are that clueless, what chance does the general public have!?

EDIT:

Ok sorry gang.

go to
www. h d t v o i c e.com (fix the spaces)

and then to:

General HDTV Discussion

and look for this thread:

Star Wars Trilogy - Anamorphic DVDs 2.39

Alternatively, you can paste this after the URL once you get to the site: showthread.php?t=12523

Sorry for the confusion.

I can't put the word "H D T V O I C E" in my post. Go ahead try it, it's blocked.

Ludicrous. I had to use ASCII characters.

I can't get there from here. How about posting the specific forum and the title of the discussion.

Thanks

We had a spammer for that site who kept signing up with new usernames after he got banned so we had to censor its name to discourage him.

We have to remember that some of those people are the general public who have just joined forums like that one and DVD Talk looking for answers because they don't understand but want to learn. Some of them will accept the knowledge and say thanks, others will have a hard time understanding (like J C O'Connel) over there and others will still fight it and cry because they still have black bars even after understanding why.

One of the things that would have made it a little easier right from the start was if all DVDs were released enhanced for 16:9 and in OAR from the beginning. The need to switch the player for your display type is one thing for them to grasp and but it's another to need to switch zoom modes for non enhanced and enhanced discs because anamorphic support isn't standard. The only time a disc should not be anamorphic is if the OAR is 1.33:1.
