Video Quality for Memento: LE?

Is the re-mastered video quality really worth upgrading itself to Memento: Limited Edition? Because I don't mind buying the 'simple menu' of the original release, if the difference between the video quality is similar to T2: CE and T2: EE.

I don't think there's remastered video on this DVD. It just has lots of different extras and new packaging (including playing the whole film in chronological order). It was released very soon after the first DVD release, so one would think there wasn't any reason for remastering.

Actually the SE does have a different transfer from the single-disc version, and the picture is improved.

However, expecting it to compare to T2 is silly. This wasn't a state-of-the-art blockbuster with a $100 million budget. It does, however, look very good.

And the two-disc SE is worth it for the extras, particularly for being able to see the film edited into chronological order. The only caveate is that the menu system is so frustrating that you'll need to search the Internet for one of the handy tutorials on navagting the menus. There might even be a link in an old thread around here.

I watched the R2 version this week and noticed that it had a very low average bitrate (~3Mbps) due to the two versions on one disc, but the video quality is not bad at all.

The LE has much better video quality than the standard release. And in fact, there is a navigational FAQ right here on DVDTalk. Do a search for the review, and there's a link on the bottom.

As for seeing the movie in chronological order, I think it's helpful for those that have already seen it to help flesh out some of the more confusing points. I really saw the movie in a different light after that, things made a great deal more sense.

I also recommend gettig the LE. The menu's can be tricky, but to have the film play in chronological order is a definate for fans of this movie

That is if you can navigate the menus on the LE. Although the PQ is much better than the single disc, they are possibly the worst menus I'd ever encountered in the 5 years of collecting dvds. Just my .02

Damn... Why couldn't DVDBeaver have Memento in their reviews.
I will buy the LE and hopefully even on a standard TV, I will be able to spot the difference. :)

That's why we're recommending the tutorials. I printed one out on heavy card stock and it fits in the LE case quite nicely.

The LE has a better transfer and DTS audio. I don't know if the difference in video quality is noticable on a smaller TV, but on my 55" Mitsubishi, I could definitely see the improvement. If you're a fan of the movie, I recommend upgrading. Otherwise, the single-disc is perfectly fine.
