I'm generally extremely happy with Netflix, but they really screwed up with their handling of Clerks X. I've emailed them, and hopefully a human will see that and respond, but since at least half of the people trying to rent the movie from them are going to get screwed too, I want to make a small pubic stink to increase the odds of Netflix's TPTB hearing about and rectifying the situation.
Yes that's right, instead of sending me disc 1, which contains the move, they sent me disc 2 which, as bonus material contains the first cut - a rough draft of the film. While it is probably very worthwhile, it is not at all the same thing as the finished film. They even labeled the envelope "Clerks X: 10th Anniversary Edition: Disc 2 (Includes entire film)". NOT!
So fellow Netflix members beware, and if the spirit moves you please send them an email letting them know that this is not acceptable and asking them to list all three discs separately so that we can rent what we actually want to see.
Rant over, thanks for listening.

First, did you have disk 1 in your queue and were sent disk 2?

I see nothing wrong with this label. It does contain the entire film, just another cut of it. This is moot anyway as I'm more interested in your responce to my question.

The problem is that they do not offer the option to select either disc 1 or disc 2. I thought it was odd when I added the movie to my queue that they weren't listing all three discs separately as they usually do, but they set wasn't even out yet so I figured that that was something they'd correct down the road.
If you search Netflix for "Clerks" you'll see four offerings. The first is "Clerks" the original DVD. The second is the two-disc animated series; when you click on that each disc comes up as a separate rental. Option three is "Clerks: Unrated Version" which is the new, Clerks X version. Clicking on that does not reveal separate discs. The last option is "Bonus Material: Clerks"; clicking on that also does not reveal separate discs.
I had "Clerks: Unrated Version" in my queue and I expected to see the new director's cut, not the rough cut.
What seems to be happening is that if you select "Clerks: Unrated" you might get disc 1 or you might get disc 2. If you select the bonus disc you'll get disc 3.
I have nothing against the rough cut, it's just not what I wanted to see, and there is no way to specifically request disc 1. I do think it's wrong to treat a rough cut as if it were the same thing as the directors cut and that I shouldn't care which I get.
Apparently a human will reply to my email in a day or so, so I'll let you know if I learn anything useful from that.
I do love Netflix very much. I really do, they've been great. I'm just disappointed that they have a version of a movie I'd like to see but no way for me to add it specifically to my queue. I'll live; I'll probably just rent the theatrical version.

For the lurkers out there, here's an update. Netflix has now changed the description of what I rented from "Clerks: Unrated Version" to "Clerks: First Cut (Not Theatrical Version)". So that's some progress. You can now add disc 2 or disc 3 of the Anniversary edition to your queue, but as of this post you can't add disc 1.
I did get a reply this morning to the email I sent them. Unfortunately, the customer service person looked into this after the description on the site had been changed, so she probably just assumed I was some bozo who couldn't read and had added the wrong movie to my queue. She was very nice, and very helpfully added the old, theatrical version to my queue.
Well, I'm not in a big hurry. I've just never seen the movie and I decided I'd like to watch the Director's Cut. Since they obviously have it, and are at least beginning to realize that there's a problem, I imagine it will all be sorted out in a day or so. At least now, everything Clerks-related that you can add to your queue is correctly titled, so if you chose to rent a disc you'll know what you're getting.
Addendum:
Actually, I now realize that what appears to be the theatrical version may well be the elusive disc 1 of the Anniversary edition but with the CE cover art showing. It's "other features" description under "more info" is identical to that of the First Cut's. Or it might me the CE. Who knows? It won't be at the top of my queue 'til this all gets sorted.

Well, you may be partly at fault since the "Director's Cut" you're looking for does not exist. The Theatrical Cut is what is on the 1st disc of the set. Double check their listing for the theatrical cut to see if it's the new remastered version.

I had thought that the new version was different/altered/unrated or somehow changed from the theatrical. I just checked the review - oops! I was wrong about that. Thanks for the heads up and sorry to add my own confusion into the mix.
The point remains, however, that I was trying to rent "Clerks X" disc 1. I selected "Clerks: Unrated Version" (see my description of the choices Netflix offered in my 2nd post. I'm quoting their titles). The cover art showed the new "Clerks X" version and nowhere did the description say "bonus disc", disc 2, or "first cut" or anything of the sort, yet they sent me disc 2. There was no way to select disc 1 of "Clerks X". There is still no way to select disc 1 of "Clerks X" although they must have it (unless they were somehow able to purchase only two discs of a three disc set, which seems unlikely). They have at least, as of yesterday afternoon or this morning changed the title of what they are offering to reflect that it is a "First Cut".
Double check their listing for the theatrical cut to see if it's the new remastered version.
Actually, in the last part of my previous post I did posit that the theatrical version may indeed be "Clerks X" disc 1, but with the old cover art showing in their description. Now that I see I was wrong about the new version being slightly different this seems even more likely. If that's the case, they'll probably fix it soon since they've already changed the title of disc 2 from the not at all clear "Clerks: Unrated" to the accurate "Clerks: First Cut (Not Theatrical Version)".
