Welcome to the forum... in the past I've never run into any such charge but it's been awhile so I can't say w/ 100% certainty what happens these days.

I have an Amazon Visa and they do not charge me any currency conversion fees at Amazon.ca, or any of the other Amazon websites outside of the United States. My previous credit card did charge a fee but off hand I don't remember the exact percentage. If you are not sure I would suggest calling your credit card company for information on any fees before you make a purchase.

Also if you have an account with Amazon.com it should work at Amazon.ca with your current username and password. Should help save you a little time instead of starting a new account.

When you use your Amazon Visa on Amazon websites outside of the U.S., do you still get 3 points to each dollar spent?

I don't think you do. Likewise I'm pretty sure the $25 GCs are NOT usable on those other sites as well.

My foreign purchases (Canada, UK, Australia, Hong Kong) on my Capital One card have never had any currency exchange surcharges.

This side of the pond I see no overt surcharges for foreign currency credit card transactions.

What they tend to do is to make a margin on the exchange rate: they get a bulk rate but show a slightly less advantageous rate on your statement.

IMO it is no big deal, perhaps a tiny bit worse than you might when exchanging cash personally but still worth it for the convenience.

No, I only get 3 points for purchases at Amazon.com and Amazon Marketplace

There is a conversion fee, but it is included in the amount charged to your card. I believe Visa and Mastercard charge a percent. Then card issuer can apply another charge too. I think AMEX charges 2%.
