Night Of The Living Dead - 3D....Any Good?
Hey all,
I have the razor3d 3d viewing system that came out a while back. Although sometimes shakey, when set up right, there are some pretty impressive 3d moments... Now my question....
Has anyone here watched the 3d version of NOTLD on this system? How is it? The same as the other 3d movies -- better effect, worse?
Just curious before i buy it....

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD wasn't shot in 3-D. The version you refer to has simply been processed to require the use of glasses, so scam artists can trick people into thinking they have converted it to 3-D.
This doesn't work. The result is not 3-D. There is no practical way to convert a flat 2-D movie to 3-D, no matter what hype you read.
CGI stuff like POLAR EXPRESS, SHREK and ANTZ can be done at great expense and labor, and in fact the former will be released in an IMAX 3-D version at the same time as the 2-D release opens in regular theatres.
Scam artists out there are selling fake 3-D versions of lots of movies, claiming they are in "Living 3-D/After Production". Lame.
Worse yet, they often take flat 2-D TV prints of old movies which were shot in 3-D and process them for shutter glasses and claim the result is 3-D. It isn't. If they don't have access to both the left and right eye images, it doesn't work.
Stay FAR away from fake 3-D versions of NOTLD and other movies.
The field sequential 3-D systems do work, but only with material shot in 3-D and when they have access to the 3-D elements to make the transfer.

I didn't realize that. Still, it's wacky. Killer, are you intent on killing this great movie? "Improved color" and bad headache-inducing 3D are not what this masterpiece needs (nor is a new 15 minute subplot shot 30 years later or heavy metal soundtrack). What it needs is a clean transfer and to be left the hell alone.
