View Full Version : Amazon STL Problems

This week and last Amazon removed the STL discount from from all my orders including Star Trek TOS Season 1,
Alfred Hitchcock Collection, and Angel Season 4.
A call to customer service resolved the problem but you must call.

At least I know it's not personal - my Hitchcock set shipped, and I was charged the non-STL price, too. I already sent an email, but if it's not the right response, I'll give them a call.

(Being suspicious by nature, one has to wonder if something like this isn't intentional with the hopes that a certain percentage of customers won't catch the "error".)

Had the same issue.

3 individual orders had problems with the STL not being discounted.

Called them up and got it settled in 5-10 minutes.

I'm going to watch my next order that ships real closely.

Obviously CALLING is the way to go - after an exchange of several emails, each one politely pointing out that I had emails CONFIRMING the STL price, I received the following:

<i>"I have reviewed our previous correspondence and your order.

I sympathize with your frustration in this matter. However, as my
colleague previously mentioned, I have researched our records and
found that we have not provided more than 30% ($29.98) discount on
this item. The price of the item was $69.94 when you placed the
order also.

Due to the circumstances surrounding your order, I have made a
one-time exception to our standard policy and as you mentioned that
you saw the price $62.95, I've requested a refund of $6.99 to your
credit card. This refund should go through within 2 to 3 business
days and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing
statement."</i>

Do they take a stupidity test to work there? This person displayed a total lack of understanding as to the circumstances. Am I going to have to follow up each and every time I've made an STL purchase?

My STL discount disappeared on my Alias Season 3 order once it actually shipped out :(

Gee what a surprise!

I have several outstanding orders and have had to call to get 3 corrected as of this week.

This will become more than slightly frustrating if I have to call for each order that ships w/o the STL discount.

I just went to amazon.com web site to check on my Angel season 4 DVD pre-order. Just hours ago when I checked, it hasn't shipped and the STL discount still applied. Now, it's shown as shipped and the STL discount disappeared.

I had the same problem with my Star Trek : TOS season 1 DVD pre-order when it was shipped last week. I had to use the 'contact us' link to get the credit back.

I've had problems recently too with all my orders that are shipping. I've sent emails to them and have seen the credits applied to my account within 2 hours or so. :)

I e-mailed them yesterday with 4 orders that didn't have my STL discount and haven't heard anything yet.

Same thing happened last week with Star Trek and they credited me within a few hours.

Seems to be taking A LOT longer this time.

After reading this I checked my order for this week and emailed customer service. The response was very quick and they gave me double the money back on my share the love refund. It has already been applied to my account, here is the response.:

Thank you for writing to us at Amazon.com.

I have looked into your order, and it appears that the Share the Love
discount was not applied to your order. This discount
should have been applied.

Please accept our sincere apologies for this error. To compenstate I
have requested a refund of $8.82 to your credit card. So you have
received this discount twice.

This refund should go through within the next 2 to 3 business days
and will appear as a credit on your next credit card billing
statement. You may also view completed refunds by clicking
the "Your Account" link at the top of our web site, then
clicking "Go!" next to "open and recently shipped orders."
Completed refunds will appear at the bottom of an individual order's
summary page.

Thank you again for shopping at Amazon.com.

P.S. - Amazon great quick reponse and going over the top instead of giving me $4.41 credit giving me instead $8.82.

Well I e-mailed them again today, this time sending 4 separate e-mails (1 for each order screwed up.)

They replied in under an hour with credits for each order, but only credited me half of what I was owed on the largest order. ARGH.

And now the order system is down so I can't check anything.

I lost my discount on my 2 orders that were shipped yesterday.

My order just went into 'shipping soon' phase. In the item section of the order page, the STL discount drops to $0.00 and the 'total for this shipment' increases by the amount of the STL, but everything in the payment information section is still correct. Does it mean I got screwed too?

I just lost mine too on the Hitchcock box. Kinda annoying. Have to make the call

Well I lost my STL on my Clerks / Duel order. I emailed and they gave me the 10% off back as a credit.

eau - sounds like they lost your discount, I would call or email if I were you.

I emailed them yesterday about losing my STL discount on my last 3 shipped orders - they emailed me overnight to tell me the amount had been credited to credit card.

I emailed about 24hrs. ago and still haven't heard anything.

Damnit. They dropped the STL off my order when it shipped today. Just sent them an email.

That sums up exactly how my Hitchcock box order appears since going into the shipping soon phase today. I'm certain it will completely drop off after it ships. Glad I only have one other order to worry about during September. I was able to switch most of my late August and September pre-orders over to DDD during their unofficial sale a few months ago and avoid most of the STL problems. Hopefully they will have this fixed by October.

It's now official. My order shipped and the STL discount is gone. And to make it worse Amazon shipped it out by UPS instead of USPS, which means it will take at least twice as long to arrive.

No specific examples, but there have been a number of instances with problems with STL with me, and with the person I've shared with or receieved the sharing from. Of all the programs Amazon.com has, this one is the most faulty. I would rather they bring back online coupons, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon

My last four orders my Share The Love has "Mysteriously" vanished...

I smell a lawsuit brewing... :)

eau
09-14-04, 01:55 AM
I sent them an email and got my refund the next day.

Yes, it's a hassle to have to keep trace of the STL. However, they are pretty quick to fix it...well after a call or email though.

Well, same thing happened to me. I ordered 3 titles on one order, first invoice was good to go, STL was there. Shipped invoice had it removed, I waited till I received the order and then I emailed them. They have this nasty trend going on here that I hope they can fix pretty fast as I really do enjoy ordering from Amazon.

Currently awaiting a response from Amazon.

I think so. Same thing happened to me - when it "actually shipped", the STL totally disappeared.

My amazon order for Star Wars Trilogy is being held up right now due to GC not being applied correctly (WTF?!). I have a feeling it is somehow related to the STL glitch. The order was entirely paid for with GC. It is showing (-$4.20) grand total, that means I'm paying $4.20 more in GC than what's on the original order confirmation (out of unused balance in my GC account), which is exactly the same amount as the STL discount on SW.

But the order page is still showing the STL $4.20 discount, that probably turns the grand total to negative $4.20. Their system is really screwed up big time.

I called and they are referring it to a GC specialist. It's gonna be a delay in shipping it out. Damn!

Somewhat related to the STL program is the Discounts you've earned tab for credits when you buy something at full cost and share the love with friends and family. I have never received a penny from this program despite sharing the love with many people each week since the program inception. I find it hard to believe that not one person used my STL discount. Its probably another computer glitch.

Last week I did receive a credit for referring STL to a family who then bought the same thing. Of course, I bought that thing at full cost first.

If you know exactly who made the purchase with the STL you gave, you can probably get amazon to trace it for you.

You only get this credit if you start the 'STL' chain. In other words, you can't get the 'STL' discount and then the 10% 'STL' credit.

Also, this credit has been working fine; it is only the discount that has been dropping.

I thought the same thing until I started checking more often. Amazon sends no notification that you receive a credit and it expires after 30 days. So the scam is they hope you don't notice and it expires.

eau

The credit expires after 30 days. You have to 'redeem' it into your accoun before it expires. Right after you redeem it, you have another 30 days to use it.

Well, I just checked my Futurama S4 order from when it was released and sure enough they removed the STL discount on it. I went and checked my gift certificate balance and it is the exact STL discount short which means they automatically removed the money from there.

Amazon has been notified repeatedly of this problem yet have done nothing to correct it. How much money do you think they have skimmed from people not knowing? I would have never noticed if it wasn't for this thread.

Amazon finally shipped my Star Trek TOS S1 Box set and once again removed the STL discount. First the Alfred Hitchcock Box Set,
then the Survivor All Stars Box, and now this. The irritating part is having to explain to the reps over the phone what is going on. They have no idea. The rep I spoke with today didn't even understand the STL system. He just asked what I think the refund should be, and then said he would request a credit and it would be posted shortly!! I should have said $20 instead of $8.45! :)

Oddly enough, I just got this e-mail:

I never even noticed STL disappeared on the order, yet they processed the refund without me even asking them to, so it appears that they are trying to fix the problem without each person having to call in.

Like Blake, I also received two emails from Amazon informing me of a couple of refunds. And I was just about to write them a pissed off email to complain about my missing STLs for the Hitchcock Collection and the SW sets.

Guess I don't have to now. Good work, Amazon!

I was about to call them tonight, too, and I've received 6 of the same emails so far. I'm only waiting on 3 more, or I'll have to contact them.

Either way, Amazon has always come through eventually for me. This same thing seems to happen once a year or so.

After they screwed up my Star Trek Season One STL discount, I decided to return my order for a refund.

Today I'm at Amazon to check on my refund, and they refunded my account for everything...except the STL discount they never applied in the first place!!!

They also didn't refund my shipping like they said they would. This is BS. They made a mistake, and now I'm getting screwed for it.
