Fart jokes in movies: they need to stop

Okay, the past few years have seen a re-surgence of the fart joke in movies. They almost always seem to involve some overweight person or, in an attempt to do something out of the ordinary, a really hot girl.
IMHO, only one director ever handled them in a manner in which they were funny , and that was Mel Brooks in Blazing Saddles. Everyone else seems to be trying to copy him ever since, and they never serve a purpose other than to be there for their own sake. I loved Shrek 2, but the fart jokes in that were really unnecessary and didn't make the movie any more funny than it already was in the first place.

That said, it looks like we might be about to get the ultimate insult to one of our favorite movie characters in history in one of our (well, it used to be a favorite) movie series ever.

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith spoiler.

It's fucking horrid. If there's any truth to it at all.

Fart jokes haven't been funny to me in 20 years.

That spoiler you linked will suck if it comes to fruition.

If that's true, I think I will scream, "OH MY GOD" at the top of my lungs in the theater.

I guess you should stay away from Kevin Smith films then.

I agree, I don't think I've laughed at a fart joke since I was 8 years old.

I've laughed at the occasional fart joke. They'll always have their place, mainly because there will always be new moviegoers who aren't known to fart jokes. Blazing Saddles may have paved the path, but lots of people haven't seen it.

Nonetheless, it is a silly juvenile joke, but it only really bothers me in films like Star Wars, where it's completely out of place. In a Farelly brother movie or Nutty professor I'm far more forgiving.

If in Return of the Sith, they:
Spoiler:
have Yoda fart

I will laugh my head off at the complete out-of-place feeling that scene would have. Very much unintentionally funny.

About that "Revenge of the Sith" spoiler -- it's tacky, out of place, and inappropriate for scene it occurs in.

Sounds like Jar Jar Binks in Ep I, so it's probably something Lucas would do.

Of course, if Natalie Portman were to let a big one rip, it might be kind of hot. (Did I say that out loud?)

If I remember correctly, there was a fart joke in Episode I (that creature that on of the characters backs up to pops one in their face), but no one seems to be complaining about that.

If its part of the deceipt, then it must be okay. The little guy's just trying out his method acting technique, to portray a "mud-covered-farting-wookie-pet" you must become a "mud-covered-farting-wookie-pet".

I trust fart jokes only in the hands of the Brothers Farrelly.

I find the jokes and fart scenes funny. The best one i've ever seen was in The Hollywood Knights (1980)....when Newbomb Turk got on stage at that Pep Rally and proceeded to fart into the microphone while dancing around....absolutely hilarious!

Apparently the Yoda rumor was bogus (though you never know) but there is a scene where R2-D2 kicks a droid in the balls. Yes, you heard right, reliable sources have confirmed that there is a scene in the works where R2 uses his third leg to kick a droideka in the sensors and also spills grease on the deck to make a group of them slip and slide. If the scene makes it to the final cut I know some will be upset but personally I'd love to see it.

It has spread like cheeks to televisioin as well. The most recent example was on Dead Like Me when they built an entire scene around a job interview with a guy with IBS.

I just know that some idiot is gonna come along and ask what IBS is, so i'm save them the embarrassment of having to ask.

IBS=Irritable Bowel Syndrome
