I know it sounds stupid but I was a little optimistic that they could be a sleeper team even though they lost Garcia, TO, Derrick Deese, Hearst, Tai Streets etc.
Their defense is not that bad though they have no pass rush and their corners can be burned.
They looked pathetic against the Vikings.
I know it is only a preseason game but they got killed last year at the Metrodome.
I don't know if the Niners offense has the capabilites of putting together one successful drive for a TD.

Look on the bright side - you have the inside track to Mike Williams.

Yo. Lifelong fan.
Gonna be a long, painful, season... They're nowhere near as bad as a lot of the media would lead you to believe, but it's gonna be rough at times... The best players on the team are in the positions that don't generally win games by themselves.
But hey, in this day and age of the NFL, you never know what can happen.

I am praying we don't become the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL.
John York is responsible for this mess.
He is so bad that he makes Al Davis look respectable.
I wish Eddie D would hire a hit man and take him out and reclaim the franchise.

Luddy: Garcia's cap hit was huge, that money doesn't just vanish. Cutting him accelerated the cap hit to the tune of something like 10 mil for this season... It's all in the contract structures. Payment comes due upon release.

I think all the "dead money" is done with after this year or next and the Niners will finally have a clean slate with which to work with... Maybe on Mike Williams. :)
Was watching Sportscenter and they just said that the Niners are going to be the worst team in football this year. :(

I'm a Niners fan, however I think they're not going win many games this year. Which I hope come to this.
1. Eddie D buy back his team again.
2. Fire Dennis Erickson and hire Pete Carroll.
3. They draft Matt Leinart as the #1 pick of the 2005 draft. :D

I'm a Niner fan for life - I'm afraid it will be a long year in which we are lucky to win 5 games. I will be watching and rooting anyway.

Been a Niner fan all my life.
Had 20+ great seasons, so I'm willing to sit through a few stinkeroos.
But the Yorks have to go. I don't need EddieD back, just someone who cares more about winning than turning a profit.
What the Yorks don't realise is that, if you care more about winning, the profits will come. They'll just come from other sources.
Sadly, untill the Yorks are gone, were subject to the whims of NFL Parity.
Oh yeah... we need a real coach too. :D

Michael Irvin is the crackhead idiot who said the Niners would be the worst team in the league.
Their defense has enough talent that should keep them in games.

Crackhead idiot or not, they are not going to be good and will be probably be 4-12 or 5-11.

San Francisco plays a tough schedule. If Arizona had all their receivers healthy, I would have said that San Francisco would be lucky to win any games in the NFC West. I would guess either 3-13 or 4-12 for them. 1-15 isn't out of the realm of possibilities.

They also need a new stadium. I thought there was a election a few years ago in which S.F. voters approved for a new stadium to been built. So what happen? Budget problem?

Favre won't play forever, you're aware of this, no?
dom56 - The location and funding for the stadium have never formally been decided upon. That and the fact that John York won't spend a dime of his own cash to build the thing. As long as York runs the team, the 49ers will be stuck in neutral.

What do you expect from an ex Cowboy?
I've followed the Niners since 1988, and although I expect them to have a bad year, I know they will be right back up in contention sooner then later.
SI ranked them 30th out of the 32 teams, with only the Cards and Bolts under them.

To be fair, Rice fumbled the ball on that series, it was a blown call. Never shoulda happened.
But Favre still can't play forever... The Packers will be just like any other team in this day and age when he retires.

Brandon Lloyd is a keeper. Rattay looked sharp last night, perfect passer rating... The defense is starting to become a concern however... :(
