Note the slight variations from the last poll - there must have been some different secretaries that filled it out this week. ;)

Yes, but what made them move Utah up two spots? I guess if Utah gets by Texas A&M on Thursday, they'll have a good shot at going undeated.

Does the Texas A&M coach have a vote? It could be the old Rick Neuheisel trick, rank your next opponent really high so it looks good when you beat them!

clemson down 5 spots after the ugly double overtime win against wake
auburn dropped a spot
I guess some of the pollsters must have bet the spread, and 31-0 wasnt enough!

I'm suprised Boise State is getting more votes than Fresno State. FSU should win the WAC and I suspect if they manage to upset K-State next week they'll catch BSU.

As expected Fresno State jumped BSU this week and their game on the blue turf should be a great battle in week 7.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to that one. They should be ranked higher though. Going on the road to two real programs from real conferences and spanking the shit out of them needs to be worth something.

Good to see WVU moving up. Hopefully we can finally win one against Maryland next weekend. That and the later game at VT are the only games that really worry me this year.

I am happy to see them both (Boise & Fresno) get their due. Fresno has easy it Saturday with Portland State! As does Boise with UTEP.

You should never overlook the Backyard Brawl. Although Pitt is not very good this year those rivalry games can be killers.

Yeah, that will be a tough game as always, but like you said they aren't very good and lost of ton of players so that should be a win for us. BC worries me the most of the Big East teams, but it's a home game for us, so we should pull that one out as well.
One thing is for sure. I have a lot more respect for Jeff Sagarin than I do any of these pollsters (and their secretaries). WVU = 33 in the Sagarins. I don't know if they are 33rd best team in the country but I sure as hell know that they are closer to 33 than 7.

I love it how teams like TCU, Boise St, and Fresno St. get shit on in the polls because they've got a "weak schedule."
Yet, WVU gets elevated to the top because they're expected to plow through a "weak schedule."

This should be a fun year. Giving the pollsters more control is going to cause so many problems, and all the people bitching about the computers, will now be bitching about their absense.
Although anything can, almost certainly will, happen, it's hard to imagine how USC, Oklahoma, and either Fresno St. or Boise St. don't all run the table. Hell, Miami has a reasonable shot, as well as West Virginia (who isn't that good, but doesn't play anyone other than VT either). I know, I know ... this talk happens every year, but something tells me this is going to be a nice and controversial year, especially if we have a 1-loss SEC Champion in the mix.

Hopefully your right das. The more controversy the better. I wouldn't have a problem with West Virginia in a playoff system, but if they somehow mangage to get into the championship game, hopefully all hell will break loose.

This year has the makings of a 1993 repeat. Undefeated and crybaby WVU team vs. 2-loss Florida team. 41-7, perhaps? :)

If we have a 1-loss SEC Champ, I still think that's a better team than Fresno St. or Boise St. or practically any other team besides USC, Oklahoma or Miami. Especially if its Florida, who has to play UT, LSU, UGA, and FL State. Of course Georgia plays UT, LSU, UF and Auburn, so take your pick. (I know which one is mine ;)).
I don't think it should be too controversial, but you are probably right -- it still will be.

Yep - I can't wait to the see the carbon blobs box themselves into a corner come December with WVU if they keep winning and teams above them lose.

Hell, I'm a diehard WVU fan and I think they're overranked.
33rd third is way too low though. They should be around 15 IMO, though they didn't even play like that against UMD.
That game should have been a blow out if our lame QB hadn't constantly over thrown wide open receivers on what would have been long TDs and we hadn't made boneheaded penalties.

Yep. WVV is somewhere in the 20-25 range IMO. Maryland is probably the 4th best team in the ACC, and WVU needed OT to beat them at home.

True, but it's not like WVU's D didn't have a hand in forcing those turnovers. Our QB had all the time in the world when he kept overthrowing people. He's just inaccurate. Having KJ Harris beat up and only able to run at around 3/4's speed (his words after game) didn't help either as he couldn't breakaway.
Plus I think the whole team was just nervous due to all the pressure they were under from fans, the media, and themselves for getting killed by MD the last 3 times.
When we go to VT in two weeks, we'll have a better idea of how good WVU really is. VT's not great, but it's a big rivalry and one of the toughest places in the country to play.

Since the BCS is still a few weeks away from making us all argue again, here are the combined AP/Coaches poll rankings using the BCS formula. Note: This list takes into account ONLY the AP and Coaches polls, the third component of the BCS -- whatever in the hell that it this year (best use of the colors red and white in their cheerleaders' pom-poms??) is not included:
That is completely different than the BCS hypo at ESPN.com, which has UGA fourth, and Miami somewhere in 1-3. I think Oklahoma was below fifth.

I don't doubt it. The BCS will be either summing or averaging three elements: (a) AP Poll, (b) Coaches Poll, and (c) a weighted sum of several other polls. Unless someone has (c) handy, all we can do right now is combine (a) and (b). Note, I added (a) and (b), but the BCS may be averaging them. Either way, the rank order will be unchanged.
I do not know the sources/weights for the polls that make up (c), nor if all of those sources have polls out this early in the season.
