An outstanding film that takes us to a world the Average filmgoer knows nothing about. The story is gut-wrenching but so powerful, Osama was one of my top 5 films last year.
I highly recommend this film and dare say...yes, this could be an excellent blind buy (even if you end up disliking the film for some political reason....).

I've been burned with blind buys so many times it's ridiculous, but Osama was one of the few blind buys that exceeded my expectations.
I've watched it three times already. The mini documentary that comes with it is fantastic. Even though this was a super-low budget film ($10,000 I believe) the video and sound quality are superb.
What drew me into this film was the trailer:

Depends if you are a fan of low-budget international films. Osama feels at times like a documentary. Director Saddiq Barmak used real-life refugees in most of the roles, and the storytelling is first rate.
As a DVD, however, it's pretty barebones. I can't imagine what you could use as extras for this film, but I probably wouldn't recommend it as a BB. As a rental, though, it is absolutely a must view.

If you have an Ingles near you, go in and see if they have it. I got mine there for $5/used, with original case and insert.

Both hollywood video and blockbuster video tend to have a fair number of copies of this movie available for sale used for $<10, I think the last time I saw it at HWV it was $5.99.
Great movie by the way, Lara Means response sounds like a knee-jerk reaction to the title of the movie, which by the way, is only indirectly connected to mr bin laden.

I really like European cinema, but am not familiar with a lot of the current stuff.
could you recommend like 10 or 15 essential European DVD's from the past 10 or 15 years? thanks.

Sure, no problem as long as we agree not to tag them "essential". My taste in films is quite "flexible" so I dont want to come off as a snob that values only his personal opinion :)
Ok, here are some films from my library (please keep in mind that most of them come from other regions but they do include subs...which means that you have to be region-free).
