I've been keeping an eye on this title for awhile and I'm starting to get really excited about it. I was a huge BF1942 fan and I'm itching to get back into that type of game. It looks like the vehicle and character list is pretty sizable which is a big plus.
I wasn't sure I was going to get it but the so-so Fable reviews have pushed it to the top of the September list. I've watched the IGN video preview and checked out some other info and it looks pretty tight.
And you can play as a Droideka! That right there is reason enough for me to get the game.

Fable only has two reviews out there. It got a 9.1 from TeamXbox, and a 9.3 from IGN. How is that "so so"? Especially considering that the only review for Battlefront is a 8.0 from PSM (PS2 version).
Anyway, back on topic. Depending on word-of-mouth, I'll probably pick up the PC version of this down the line.

"So-so" was a bad choice of words. For me personally, I was expecting a much longer quest than what it apparently is.
I haven't found a good Live game that I enjoy playing with random people, so that's another reason I'm looking forward to SW:Battlefront.

The main portion of this game will be played online. Basically you pick your side (Rebel/Alliance/Trade Federation) etc, and battle against another side. From playing the demo, I think the idea behind the game is to capture all of the battlefield and/or kill X amount of soldiers.
I doubt there will be much teamwork seen in the battles. It's pretty much just kill your opponents as quickly as possible. I thought it was kinda cool that you could pilot vehicles too.
Like I said earlier, I'll be awaiting feedback before I purchase.

Don't judge by the demo, it looked like crap which scared me. I bought the xbox version today and its amazing both graphics and gameplay. The key to get a good room with no lag, some games i played were choppy as hell, others played perfect. I don't know if i have ever had more fun playing a game. I expected more of a socom feel, but it just chaos from start to finish. I hope we get more organized as people get used to it.
Some asshole on my team kept shooting me last night. over the course of 4 hours, i bet he killed me 75 times.
The first time we played a hoth board, I was a snowtrooper, and i got stepped on by an at at within like 30 seconds.
Also, I was a rebel on the endor board. like everyone immediatly said, "cool speeder bikes yes." that was followed by about 8 explosions from us each flooring it into surrounding trees.

Hmmm...I'm going to shit in my own thread. I played again for a few hours last night and I just...don't like it.
I was a HUGE BF1942 player (in a clan, practiced nightly, etc...) and I was hoping this would be comparable. I never realized how much I DON'T want to hear people talking about stupid shit during the game. One guy last night was shrieking "Dude, I'm in the middle. I'm in the middle and there is a fucking AT-AT here. I'm in the middle! There's an AT-AT here!!! I'm in the middle!" Every one of us could see the damn AT-AT from where we were. Shut up!!!
I ended up taking my headset off to play. I miss text messages.
I did have some decent games but it's just not doing it for me. I kept playing to see all the maps rather than because I was having a good time. I'm pretty disappointed overall with the loose controls, shitty net code and opti/quickmatch system, and the crappy AI.
This is my first Live game that I played with random people and not my friends (who aren't interested in this game) and it actually got me less excited about Halo 2 on Live.

IMO this is not like bf 1942.
this is more like the jeepathon maps in CS. ;) The vehicles are a pain in the ass. It's gonna take awhile to get used to them.

You can pick either 3rd person or 1st person perspective from the options menu.
In my two evenings of play, the online play is laggy, confusing (I've picked "Optimatch" and had it say "The game is full." WTF? I didn't pick the game, you did!) and filled with morons.
I had some fun moments though. I was playing on the rebel side and came running around the corner of my base to see a 75-ft tall AT-AT standing in the middle of the square, laying waste to everything in sight. That was a "holy shit" moment. And clearing out the CIS forces with Mace Windu at my side was kinda fun too. But those moments have been few and far between.

Well, it is an online game after all. A weakness of all online games is that they're filled with morons, at least until people learn how to play and/or start playing more with their friends (who may still be morons, but at least are more tolerable since you know them).
So when are we setting up a DVDTalk game? Are there even enough people on here that have this game to do so?

I've been checking the gamertag list and sending an invite to everyone who has this games listed (as well as Burnout 3). I'm hoping to find a few more mature gamers to play with. I had one game where some wang was teamkilling and talking about it and another one where we had a group of like 6 people and everyone was cool. In the group of 6 we played like 2.5 hours and had a great time because even though it was just 3 on 3 there was little lag and no matter who you teamed with they were all nice. That will make this game fun. So send me an invite! ;)

There was some audio skipping on the menu music after I got the tar beat out of me during the Battle of Bespin though. Just might be my PS2.

I played for another couple hours and have a problem. Hosts dropping the game once they start getting whipped. I had about 3-4 games dropped last night, and another where it was a group of friends trying to boot everyone but themselves. Set up a private game morons if you don't want others in it. Sheesh.
I just do quickmatch and I'd say 95% of the time it is always CIS vs. the Republic. Were is the love for the Empire and Rebels? I played as CIS once last night and couldn't stand it.

I'm getting the game at EB Games. They have a rebate where if you buy the game and the strategy guide, they'll mail a $15 voucher (like getting the guide for "free"). Do you think there's any need for the guide, or should I just hang onto my money?

Hey guys. Are any of you thinking that the single player could have benefitted from a little more "structure". You know, things like more clearly defined objectives (other than "capture the command post"), little more intricate squad commands, better presentation, those kind of things.
It's a good game, just the single player seems a little on the chaotic side.

Okay, I had a little better experience this afternoon. Some serious platform fighting on Kamino (I love the jet pack trooper) made up for some bad experiences.
I'm still getting a lot of lag, but I just jump out of the game if it's bad and try another.

It seems XBOX games today are making half assed single player and with the idea that most will want to go online. I know I buy games based on being able to go Live...
With that said, I like the single player game. I'm not a hardcore gamer so that may figure into my like of the game.

It does rock. The Dark Trooper's jet pack only boosts his jump. The Clone Trooper can actually fly, hover and gain altitude.

I'll have to try it again tomorrow, but so far my impression of the Xbox version is this...
Battlefront is a pile of steaming festering shit with maggots and mushrooms. Worst net-code ever. This one is more unfinished and buggy than True Crime or that Bruce Lee game. The AI sucks, the net play is garbage, the single player is pointless. I like BF1942 and I even kinda like BF Vietnam, and I can see this possibly being fun if they had finished making it. I heavily regret not getting the PC version instead of this mess. Hopefully they are going to release some sort of XBL patch - otherwise, I'm selling this asap and staying away from Lucasarts forever. This release was the last straw for them after cancelling Sam and Max and Full Throttle etc... but whatever, gotta make a release date.
I also fully agree with the poster who complained about the people talking. Half the people on this game don't know how to use their mic and it's a nuisance and a headache. Worst game I've played so far this year. If it's not possible to patch up the net code and fix it so the game doesn't constantly crash, then it's complete rubbish.

I got sick of listening to people jabber, so I'm back on my logitech wireless.
I haven't had too much lag issues lately. My cable company just boosted bandwith, doubled the upload speed. Just an occasional jump here and there. But even with that I still can't host a game with more than 4 players. What's up with that? I'm hardwired to my router, no wireless. Very strong connection.
Trigger
09-27-04, 06:14 AM
I don't get that either... only 4 players here too. Maybe only college dorm students with T1 access can host with more people. The jabber of people is... annoying isn't strong enough a word really.
Played more today and didn't have any crashes oddly enough. Had trouble finding a decent server, but not as bad as yesterday. Things will either smooth out or they won't. I'll hang on to the game for awhile anyway in case they do iron out the kinks.

I had another evening of poor servers, crashes and serious lag. I've decided to eBay my copy. I feel like I'm playing it because I paid for it, not because I want to.
Maybe I'll pick it up again when it drops in price, but I've got better games I could be playing.

Why are the vehicles, specifically the flying ones, so damn hard to control? is this part of the realism? I mean I guess some of those might be difficult to fly if they were real but they all seem to be fighting with me.
Anyway, the few "good games" I've had with decent online folks more than paid for this game for me. Unlike Rainbow Six 3, there seems to be more of a fun environment in SW:B. Unlike, the "Kill you and have sex with your intestines" vibe of RS3. There's nothing cooler than a long game where the numbers are close and then suddenly one side starts to coordinate and kick ass.
I'm sorry so many here are having trouble with it online. I admit it is hard to get on. My advice is to try the early morning games. :(

You may want to go into options and bump up your connection. The first time it said I could only hold four, but when I raised my speed it allowed 13 on my cable modem. Check it out under online options.

The only problem I've had so far on the PS2 version, is when I host a PC dedicated server, my mic doesn't work. I haven't crashed once yet, and lag is about average with any other online game.

The upload requirements of SWBF are pretty hefty, 40kbps per player according to one of the developers. Since many (if not most) cable/DSL users have either 128kbps or 256kbps uploads, this equates to being able to host only a small number--4 or 6 people respectively. If you are one of the lucky few with high upload caps, you will have to change the connection speed setting under the SWBF options to get it to allow you to host more than that. DO NOT do this unless you actually have the upload speed for it though because, if you don't, the game will be bad for everyone.

Oh shit! I didn't know you can have a pilot and co-pilot/gunner in the huge At-Ats  I've heard people say you can't but I read you could in the Strategy Guide and I did it yesterday and pretty much opened a can of whup ass on HOTH.
It's slower than the Clone walker transport with the cannon on top but it kicks ass.
I also didn't know...most of you probably already knew this:
1. you CAN kill the Heroes. It's not easy...or even recommended but you can.
2. Those r2 units in field repairs vehicles and they're the only way to replenish ammo on the vehicles.

I think grenades are the only way to kill heroes, the easiest (maybe the only) way being to bomb them off a cliff. Still, I think there are better ways to use the conquered planet benefits than using heroes... they're just cooler.
I still hate the way the Xwings control...
How is online play now? I haven't played in a few weeks, but it was very glitchy and people tended to play unorganized. Has it changed any? (I'm mainly talking about play on Xbox live, but any conversation is welcome)

I killed Vader. It took 8 direct hits from an AT-AT but I killed him. ;) I like the game but flying is pretty much impossible. How the hell do you fly these things? Once I get able to actually aim at something I'm too close to it and just ram it. It's so damn frustrating.

Yeah flying sucks. It seems every plane has different controls. Most of the time the best method is stopping over a target and firing down. At least in the Clone Trooper transport plane the other gunner spots allow you let them do the damage. But the single pilot planes suck.

Yeah most of the time the "heroes" option is off online but you can see them every once in a while. If you have them on in single player you'll always see them. You'll also know because their presence is announced at the start of the round. "Lord Vader has entered the battlefield" etc. If you have 5.1 stereo you can also here the Saber hum from whatever direction the hero is standing/running.
If you shoot at them from a short range they'll target you and kill you with their Saber. On the snow maps Luke has a pilots outfit on and the only thing that distinguishes him from other pilots is his saber.
