what about andruw jones? Yep, just as I thought. It's either Jones or Patterson, no question. Edmonds isn't even close.

And because it's so close, it'll most likely go to Jones since he's won it the last 6 years or whatever. Gold Gloves are given out more based on reputation than pure stats.
Though it's probably not that close when you consider Andruw has 80 more chances.
According to that list though, with the exception of Assists, Marquis Grissom has played the best CF.

Of course... fielding percentage is only a part of what you have to look at. The zone rating is equally important, if not more so. And if you look at that, Edmonds has to be up there. I'd put him at the top.

But his RF isn't. He's middle of the road, maybe slightly above. I give the edge to Patterson or Andruw.

Edmonds and Andruw Jones are practically guaranteed Gold Gloves every year. The question is - who is going to be the third outfielder in the NL to win one this year? If it's a centerfielder - probably Patterson.

Edmonds, he's different gravy.

Unless they've changed the rules, they give out Gold Gloves to just three OFs, regardless of position. With that in mind Jones and Edmonds will almost certainly get a gold glove. Patterson might get one too, but reputation is huge in these kind of votes.

Patterson definatelly deserves it. I mean he converted 3 double plays in 2 days, throwing 2 guys out at home (both times with the bases loaded) and 1 at 3rd. And while it shouldn't count his offense is on the rise since the beginning of August/Him becomming the lead-off man.
Like the Cubs announcer said the thing Jim Edmonmds has going for him is the short fence at Busch where he gets to make more highlight reel catches. And he is a ~MVP CANDIDATE~ for the ~GREATEST TEAM EVER~. ;)

I still can't believe the Angles traded him for almost nothing (what did they get, some washed up starting pitcher, right?). Everything worked out OK for them, so they're kinda given a free pass on it (kinda like the Colts trading Marshall Faulk to the Rams for a second rounder). Still that was a pretty dumb trade on Anaheim's part.

They did get Adam Kennedy, in addition to Ken Bottenfield who disappeared pretty quickly.
Bear in mind, the Angels have had great outfielders all along. Anderson, Erstad, Salmon, now Guerrero and Guillen. And that group, with a healthy contribution from Adam Kennedy, led them to a World Series win

Well, I did point out that it worked out OK for them. Didn't remember that Kennedy was part of that deal, in retrospect that makes the deal a lot better. I guess the point I wanted to make was since Edmonds was a known commodity (and Gold Glove winner) in high demand, if they really felt they had to move him(and I never understood that), they should have at least gotten a solid starter in return. If they had kept him, maybe they wouldn't have made it to the World Series, who knows? But as great as Vlad has been (and he's been pretty great), if they had hung on to Edmonds they wouldn't have needed him.

That's not weird...that's fact. The guy can play, regardless of which park he is playing in.
I agree that Edmonds and Jones will probably both win one this year, but I do think that Patterson definitely needs to be considered. He has made some great plays as of late.

it works out well that you dont have to pick between edmonds and jones.. since they just give it to 3 outfielders

I seriously did not know this until reading one of the posts above. I just assumed that you had to give a Gold Glove to each position, RF, CF, LF. That makes it much easier to choose both Edmonds and Jones, but then who gets the third one?

If you look at Edmonds' stats before the trade, they were good, but nowhere near what he has done since. Other than 1998, when he played 154 games, he'd never played more than 141. And in 1999, the last year before he was traded, he played only 55 games. In 1996, in 114 games, he had an OPS over .900, but no other year. He has not had an OPS lower than .974 since joining St. Louis. He hit over 30 HR's in 1995 (33), but no other year. He has averaged 35 HR's since joining the Cards.
I'm not saying that the Angels didn't make a mistake, they OBVIOUSLY did. But he really stepped up once traded, he was kind of a question mark physically and had a rep as a head case when traded. Not to mention he was merely good before the trade, while he has been great since it.

Andruw Jones without a doubt, and I say that knowing I'm prejudiced. The best centerfielder I've ever seen, and many arguably the best ever, defensively at least. Now, if he could only get his batting up to par.

I agree. He's an awesome fielder. He has had some really good hitting seasons in years past. Too bad that a lot of the time, the guy who is similar in fielding, but has a much better hitting season, always seems to win the glove.

MLB.com (I got it from Cubs.com, but I believe it was written by someone form MLB.com) makes a great case for Patterson
I like this part
Patterson, 25, won't make the ESPN SportsCenter highlight films every night with showboat catches like Edmonds but that's because the Cubs center fielder is so efficient.
"You don't see Corey dive a whole lot or make crazy catches over his head because he gets back on those balls and he gets to a lot of balls," Wood said. "If it's shallow and he has to come in, the only reason he'd have to dive is if it's that little infield play. He doesn't have to dive -- he doesn't need to because he gets to the balls."
