I read Francis Rizzo III's DVD review of Shaolin Soccer at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=12080 and...

I was wondering why he only gave it 3 stars? He doesn't say anything bad about the movie. What's wrong with it if you're only giving it 3 stars? :)

Also, the Chinese import does have the 111-minute cut, just choose the Special Version, and you'll have a little guy playing soccer on the top of the screen when the extended scenes come up. Press enter to get the scenes. The US and Chinese DVDs aren't the only DVDs available, also, as the movie has been made available, in its uncut format, pretty much all over the world Miramax didn't distribute to.

Other than that, it's nice review. Thanks for mentioning God of Cookery, hopefully some company (not Miramax!) will get a hold of it and release in in R1. It's just great. :)

Why just three stars? That's where Shaolin Soccer simply fits on my scale (other films I've given three stars to include Connie and Carla and The Last American Virgin.) There's nothing amazing about the film. It's simply entertaining.

As far as the Chinese import, it seems like I probably have a bootleg copy in my possesion, unfortunately. When I said the new Miramax DVD is the most complete version, I meant on the American audience. I am correcting the review to clarify this.

I really enjoyed this one when I rented if from Netflix - but I gave it 3 stars too. I don't expect the filmmakers expect more than that. It is a quirky comedy, not a film classic.
