Salem Lot Remake?
I just noticed that the "Salem Lot" Miniseries that aired a few months ago is coming out on DVD. I never watched the miniseries when it aired, and I am wondering if it was anygood. I am a hugefan of steven king, but Im wondering if this is a good blind-buy or if i should netflix it... thanks!

If it was released on Sci-Fi, it probably sucks. If it was released on any other network, it's probably not bad.

It was TNT, I believe. (but don't take my word in it)
From the bits I saw it was pretty good, better than the original. They seemed to made it a lot creepier, but then again, I've never read the book so I don't know how it stacks up to that.

I liked it...I like the original tv movie better, but I think this one tended to be more faithful(several GLARING alterations aside). The main problem with this new one is it plays like the events in the film are happening over 1-2 days. It feels to me that it was edited down storywise due to time constraints. It could've used more time to draw out the story. Several subplots are missing that aren't especially necessary but add to the feeling that the town is in real danger, as opposed to the main characters. Also Rob Lowe's narration at time makes it feel like the Wonder Years.
But, it's better than most King tv miniseries I've seen, with the exceptions of the original Salems Lot, IT, and The Stand.
I plan to buy it. It's not perfect, but when it's good it's really good. I recommend netflix, not a blind buy. You may end up liking it, or as a fan of King, you may not be able to swallow how some of the characters were altered(I was able to, but I can see why a lot of his fans were upset-but then, many of his fans liked the Shining miniseries more than the movie, so go figure).

I thought the new mini series on TNT was pretty good, and will be picking it up in October on DVD for sure. Tobe Hooper's version just seems too aged for my taste. Still though, nothing beats the book. Kept me up for hours each night.
