I've been hearing for a while that the reason it wasn't cut-and-dry was because he got $100,000 from the agent that he hired and he couldn't pay it back (already spent it). Anyone know if there is any truth to that?

What a bunch of nonsense. I can't stand the NCAA - no rhyme or reason by the decisions handed down by this organziation.

Their's no money involved in it for them so of course they'ge going to deny it.

On the bright side, I look for this to fire up the Trojans on Sat night to show that they can light up the scoreboard without Williams, which I think they can.

I disagree. Every decision the NCAA hands down is aimed at showing everyone that it has all the power. No flexibility in its rules whatsoever. "You don't like it? Tough. Whatcha gonna do about it?"

While I had never heard that dollar amount - common sense tells you that, like most players in the draft, he got a decent sized advance from his agent.

what a crock...poor guy. I must admit to being a tad :hscratch: over the thread title, however...it suggests the opposite of what happened.

Me, too.
Based on the thread title, I thought he was reinstated.

I think he was talking about the way that the Heisman pose looks like someone doing a stop handmotion.

Assuming he got money, then if he really couldn't pay it back, it is not surprising at all to me that he wasn't let back in.

Bloom last week, Williams this week, who is the NCAA going to screw over next week?

If he couldn't pay back money that he got from an agent, do all of you still think he should have been let back in?

also, Williams got some VERY poor advice when he declared. Anybody with any knowledge of labor law knew that the Clarett decision was going to get overturned...

I added proverbial to the title right before I posted it for a little less confusion.

He got very bad advice, even then why the hell did he just not declare and stay away from any money for a couple of weeks?
This is a bad situation, Williams was dumb for taking so much money when most people knew the original decision was going to be overturned, but the NCAA is earning Bosworth's National Communist Against Athletes moniker (looked for a pic of his shirt but could not find one) after this past week. The Bloom call is just absolutely horrible, I mean men (because at 28 he was no kid) like Chris Weinke can make tons of money on baseball and then come back and play football, but one of our future Olympians can not take a few bucks to support his ski training and play football. Just retarded.

I wonder if the Bloom decision somewhat cornered the NCAA on this decision. If they allowed Williams to come back, would it give Bloom some legal leverage against their decision regarding him?
