astro boy savegame problem (GBA)

Hi! I picked up Astro Boy for the GBA, and it is great so far. However, I think I might have a defective cart. I can create a new game (called BOB), but it disappears when I turn the GBA off. If I play through the first level and exit through the game menu, my savegame is still present. But, if I turn off the unit and then turn it back on again, it is gone. Am I missing something, or is my cart bad?

thanks!

Where did you buy your Astro Boy game? I heard pirated GBA cart have problem with saved games. If you bought it from a store, you can probably get an exchange for another one. Did you save your receipt?

If you buy your cart from ebay and want to check if it's authentic Nintendo cart. You can do the following:

1) In the cart's connector, you can check for the word 'Nintendo'. It's next to the metallic connectors. I heard pirated copies don't have this word.
2) On the cart label, there is a number printed. I read that pirated copy don't have this number.

i got it at a retail store. I'll just take it back. I was just asking on the off chance that I was doing something wrong and that perhaps I needed to reach a certain point in the game (a la Castlevania or Metroid) to save. thanks!
